Senate conservatives feeling “scandal fatigue.”

Bad news for Gonzales:

Goodling’s announcement, some senior Republicans felt, strengthened the Democrats’ charge that the Justice Department had something to hide.

All of which added up to scandal fatigue inside the caucus, the senators said.

Specter’s appeal to the caucus received “a lot of head shaking, a lot of eye-rolling,” said one senator who attended and spoke on condition of anonymity because the session was private.

Asked Tuesday if Gonzales had lost their confidence, many Senate Republicans demurred.

2. I am sure that the Rethug caucus is sick and tired of that whining

bastard. After all, he gave up Senate review of U.S. attorney appointments without telling the other senators what he had done. Or, a member of his staff did it without telling Arlen. Either way, he gave powers to the WH that the other 99 senators (Dems and Rethugs) would have never agreed to and the result of that legislative trickery brought the Rethugs this scandal and placed it at their feet.

Really, I bet the other Rethug senators can not look him in the face, much less eat lunch with them. He is a traitor to the senate.

5. The Republican leadership wanted that in there. Otherwise they wouldn't have insisted that noone
have time to read the document before the vote.

6. I don't think so. Every Senator has an ego the size of Ethiopia.
They want to be consulted about every U.S. attorney from their state. It is custom for the White House to confer with Senators even when they are from different political parties. The Senators actually see these appointments as their appointments - not White House appointments. They would never agree to give it up.

I used to have friends who worked on the Hill but they have all moved on so I can't get any inside info but I can not even imagine how angry the Senate Repugs are with Senator Spector. I mean, this just makes him look like a dope.

7. I could not disagree more. GOP *Senators* were caught trying to get these attorneys fired.

They wanted the White House to fire them and appoint flunkies to help them keep their power in their states.

They're just ticked off that they have a big spotlight shining on their plan and so they're running from it.

3. Senate Conservatives ARE the scandal
They just want to be reelected so they're going to pretend they weren't 100% loyal Bushies for the past 6 years.

9. Gee. I'm sorry we're boring them with exposure of their malfeasance.
Well I can understand. Nothing is more wearying than spending every waking moment wondering when the ton of misappropriated bricks is going to land on you.
