The four big issues (besides Iraq)

I know they all overlap. I think whoever (of either party) faces these four issues with courage and sincerity, practicality and fiscal reality will be lauded far and wide. I sure hope its we Dems, but as a middle class father of three I'd have to consider anyone who turns and faces these four.

1. Education- which includes how we finance school buildings and deal with teachers unions.Is anything more strategic than an educated citizenry?

2. Jobs- the deep unease we all feel isn't going away on its own. I think government could do more through public policy to stop the endless shipping of good jobs to other countries.

3. Taxes- If the people had proof/faith that they're money(government programs of every stripe) was being well administered this would be much less of an issue.

4. Pensions/social security- way too many of us are woefully unprepared for retirement and the government seems incapable/unwilling to deal with a HUGE looming problem.


Thats it. They're out there for any smart brave politician to pick up and run with. I'd settle for somebody willing to deal with ONE of them.Anybody brave enough to explain an overarching strategy to deal with all of them will be a hero of historic proportions.

prescription drugs.....HEALTH, a big concern here in NH.

Deal with corruption and open government issues, and you'll see all the OTHER issues miraculously dealt with, since it is corruption and secrecy that prevents them from being dealt with correctly in the first place.

1) the environment -- if we don't survive, none of the rest will matter.
2) health and health coverage.
3) workers' rights.
4) growing inequality, especially income inequality.

We put a man on the moon...why can't we do this? Fully fund research toward all promising treatments, and set a national goal of getting rid of this scourge once and for all.

Is that naive?

Cancer has affected nearly every person I know in some way or another.

on ones EVERYONE should bloody well want and feel justified to fight against.

If any of the GOP candidates figure out a way to exploit voter xenophobia without pissing off the corporations who want cheap labor.

Also, let's not forget that in addition to Iraq, we may have a war with Iran. And with the mess Bush has made in Afghanistan, we could get a resurgence of al Qaeda/Taliban activity. And if we don't, the GOP may try to make it look like there is.

put Immigration and Border Control front and center.

They will use this to "whip their base into a frenzy"
unless the Congress (House and Senate) get something
passed before the election.
