Politically Speaking - Will Bush or Congressional Dems come out on top in Iraq legislation...

So what are peoples' opinions - throw out the "because it's right" argument and go with just the political. One headline states Bush is claiming the Democrats will be seen as the losers on this.

What's everyone's opinion and why?

Myself, I've always seemed to notice President's usually come out better than Congress (One mouth versus 535 mouths)....

There was an analysis of this posted in another thread. And while many of the comments in that thread disagree with the analysis, I tend to think the author of the analysis may be right.

that just doing the RIGHT thing is the way to go ...

The "conservative" stranglehold on the country has been broken ... I think if the Dems just do the right thing, whatever it will look like, that the general population will accept it ... I think you see that in polling, for instance that even though people believe that there is some politics involved in the US attorney mess, they STILL support subpeonas and investigations by a wide margin ...

I think they send the bill to the clown, let him veto it, and come back and do what their gut tells them to do ... Be it send back a similar kind of deal, or not ... As long as they don't THINK about it from a POLITICAl standpoint ... I think people are ready to just have good governance ...

That being said, make no mistake, even if it is the right thing and the public knows and supports it now, over time the republican party WILL spin this negatively ... That is what they do, and when things get turned around and the masses get confortable and lax again, they will buy into it, and off we go again ...

NOT that that should stop them from doing what is right now ...

Bush needs their votes, Dems do not need Bush. He can veto all he wants... he gets no money unless he cooperates!

He is sounding like a broken record and people (except for the 32%) don't believe him anymore. He has worn out and used all his "political capital". What a jackass.

Few agree with * anymore and what he says is carrying less and less weight, they don't trust or like him. It seems to be the dems to lose.

I'd have to say that there is a lot of concern inside the beltway that the administration may lose if it comes to a showdown. Pat Buchanan last night on Scarborough was friggin panicky, screeching that bush had trapped the Dems in some sort of sucker play and they (Dems) should back off if they didn't want to look unpatriotic. When an asshole like Buchanan shows so much concern for the Dems I have to think they are scared shitless that they don't have the cards.
