A weird coincidence???
--- We're all pretty well aware that AG Gonzales recently made a comment about wanting to get past the prosecutor-firing scandal so that he could get back to his primary job of "keeping our children safe." I believe that remark drew a little comment at the time. Well, I'm in Virginia and, although we have a new democratic Senator and a 2nd consecutive democratic Governor,.. we still managed to end up with a republican state Attorney General. And last night I saw this guy in a local TV ad in which he made almost the identical remark,.... that his job was to keep our children safe. A well-planned underlining of Gonzales' emotive rhetoric? A GOP talking point in the making? Maybe I'm making too much of it,..... but it sure seemed eerie at the time.

2. They can't wrap themselves in the flag anymore so they hide behind 'the children'
Remember the scene from the movie Dead Zone? Yeah, it's pretty much come to that.

4. Then let me ask a further question,....
--- Is this happening in any other states? Are other state AG's (who happen to be republican) picking up the line to help lend credibility to Gonzales?

3. Keeping our children safe from WHAT? Repervican politicians?
Certainly not safe from hunger or inadequate medical care.

5. Not a coincidence, IMO. Strategy against Pelosi
and the Mommy State. It subtelly attacks Nancy Pelosi's 'I'm a mother and a grandmother'. Remember how Pelosi was highly praised for her stroke of genious in having children surround her as she accepted the gavel? THAT'S what the "keep kids safe" is all about.

Both are 'for the children' but the GOP is advancing it as "protecting, all warm and fuzzy keep them safe like a father", while Pelosi's is along the lines of "fighting for".

9. Desperation, the last resort: "Think of the Children!"
An old chestnut. Unfortunately, they don't give a shit about the children.

11. They are fighting internet porn
Edited on Mon Apr-02-07 12:07 PM by EC
so they say, but read last week that the courts decided that it's a first amendment right...that parents should use locking programs and watch their own children, that it's not the courts job...to which I agree...

edit: you know it's funny, I never have any porn show up on my computers, so I'm thinking someone in household must purposely look for the stuff, it just doesn't invade...like some I have heard want to believe...
