Putnam: Mouse that Roared.
Congressman Adam "Opie" Putnam, that is, of District 12, Florida. I am sure you have seen him on C-Span in his role of GOP "attack dog."

This is a short but powerful letter to the editor refuting an article the paper ran about Putnam.

Putnam: Mouse That Roared

I got a chuckle out of your March 26 front-page article on Rep. Adam Putnam . Far from shaping up as the "GOP's Attack Dog," he's much more like a "mouse that roared." Increasingly irrelevant to the legislative process, Rep. Putnam needs to refocus his attention on the needs of the nation and on our own congressional district.

Great letter to go with the recent powerful editorial calling Putnam out for lying about Nancy Pelosi and the plane.

The Plane Truth, Putnam and Pelosi

The key part of the editorial and the article to which it referred was this:

On Feb. 1, The Washington Times published a story, using anonymous sources, saying House Speaker Nancy Pelosi had demanded "routine access to military aircraft" for trips back to her district in California. The story said Rep. J. Dennis Hastert, Pelosi's Republican predecessor, had used a military aircraft for trips back to his Illinois district after the Sept. 11 attacks. Subsequent stories in The Washington Times, again quoting anonymous sources, said Pelosi had also demanded a large aircraft capable of flying nonstop across the country.

....."Putnam evidently developed an admiration for the reporting in The Washington Times, founded in 1982 by Sun Myung Moon, leader of the Unification Church and the Family Federation for World Peace and Unification.

Putnam quoted the Washington Times without researching the facts, and even Tony Snow had to apologize for the error and the attacks on Pelosi.
