Eight U.S. troops killed in three days and a U.S. copter downed

Militants kill 8 U.S. soldiers in Iraq

By KIM GAMEL, Associated Press Writer 21 minutes ago

BAGHDAD - The U.S. military reported Thursday that eight U.S. soldiers were killed in the Baghdad area over the past three days as militants fought back against a security plan in its eighth week. An Army helicopter went down south of the capital, wounding four, after an Iraqi official said insurgents fired on it.

Four British soldiers — including two women — died Thursday in an ambush that Prime Minister Tony Blair called an "act of terrorism," suggesting it may have been carried out by elements linked to Iran but stopping short of blaming Tehran.

One U.S. soldier died and two were wounded in a roadside bombing Thursday in restive Diyala province north of Baghdad, the military said. Four others died Wednesday in two roadside bombs explosions in southern Baghdad and north of the capital, while another was killed by small-arms fire in the eastern part of the city. Two other soldiers were killed by small-arms fire on Tuesday — one in eastern Baghdad and another on foot patrol in the southern outskirts of the capital.

The U.S. military said the downing of the helicopter carrying nine people was under investigation.

1. But Pickles and McCain say things are getting better. The media just
isn't showing us the Shirley Temple stories about how great things really are.

17. no wonder
with a fatality rate double that of comparable periods the past three years its pretty hard to low-key. I saw an AP article comparing March (traditional low-month for some reason) to December (one of the highest ever) and trying to imply it was an improvement, but mostly they are just keeping mum.

And the story about all the people moving back was debunked as soon as it came out. Unfortunately, it has gotten so bad that lying about it is pretty much impossible.

12. Another average period in Iraq
About three per day, about 40 to 50 seriously wounded.

The lost helo was just a little bit of spice to an otherwise unremarkable week.

And isnt' the fact that it IS normal perhaps the saddest part of all?

they are nothing but toy soldiers to the bush regime, I hate bush and his regime for doing this to our troops, bush, and cheney and the rest of his cabal are nothing but war criminals this must stop. How many more must die for their lies. Cheney and Bush should get their a$$es permanently out there in Iraq.
