How Many Repug Senators Are Needed To Overturn *'s Veto On This.....
war appropriations bill?

What's the count? How can we put pressure on other Repug Senators to stop the veto? Can the Dems enlist Hagel to do some arm turning? There has to be some Repug Senators that are up for election in the next go round - that can feel some pressure?

The Dems should try for that.

1. 67 votes
At least 16, assuming that Holy Joe votes with us-which I doubt.

2. well, do the math.

50 Sens voted for it last time (two of which were Reps). 48 against (one of which was Lieberman). You need 67 votes (2/3) to override the veto. 67 - 50 = 17 GOP senators needed for overriding Bush's veto. Including the two GOP votes we already got, that's 19 GOP Senators required, 18 if Joe Lieberman can be persuaded to come back on board.

3. OK - Of The Remaining Repugs - Which Are Up For Re-election In '08?....
These would be the first Repugs to work on as they would be most vulnerable. If 60 to 70% of the American people are against this war - we need to bring the power of the people on to those up for re-election. I have to think that the percentages are about the same in every state.

4. But if it's vetoed does that means it passes?
Or do they have to come up with another bill?

6. There's no way there would be enough GOPers to override. They are
are attached to Chimpy at the hip. August is when you'll finally see some break with him, but not until then, unless things go from bad to worse over there.

7. Reid should bring this up for a vote every month
I think Reid should bring a zero-funding Iraq war bill to the floor every month. Make Bush and/or the republicans vote it down 15 times between now and election day. Tie that millstone completely around their necks, so that come November 2008, the republicans own it totally and completely.
