Richardson supports Pelosi's visit to Syria
MANCHESTER, N.H. -- The White House criticized House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's trip to Syria, but New Mexico Governor Bill Richardson defended the visit.

Pelosi met with Syrian officials on Wednesday. Democrats like Pelosi have argued for the Bush Administration to talk with Syria and Iran to see if it is possible to involve them in stopping violence in Iraq.

"The White House is not pleased, but we should be talking to Syria," said Richardson, who has negotiated with several countries. "My view is that you negotiate in a very tough way with Syria.

"She’s the Speaker of the House and she is making a statement. She is not saying anything that in my view is contrary to American foreign policy. She’s supportive of Israel. She knows Syria is a problem. Syria hearing our concerns directly instead of through the news media is much more effective," he said.

1. Good for Richardson
This is how Dems should defend Dems unfairly under attack by WH and their mediawhores.

Kerry and Dean made strong statements supporting Pelosi, too.

Too bad this Dem spokesperson got the airtime from MSNBC, though. She spoke in contrast to Dean's DNC statement supporting Pelosi.

HILARY ROSEN, NBC ANALYST: It wasn‘t Nancy Pelosi‘s finest moment.

(LAUGHTER)

CARLSON: Yes.

ROSEN: And there is plenty to do the week where all the focus should be on keeping the showdown with the president on having accountability in Iraq.

CARLSON: Well, that‘s a good point.

ROSEN: I think that there are a lot of Democrats who want to see Nancy Pelosi push back on the president, push back on this foreign policy.

And it would have been a fine trip, had she not miscommunicated the Israeli message. I think that would—I think that sort of was the problem.

12. Are There Any Democratic Candidates Who Have Not Supported Pelosi's Trip
or have waffled on it? Just asking -- I really don't know. Glad Richardson is getting more coverage these days.

14. Haven't seen anything specific yet - but DC pundit class isn't exactly being supportive.
As evidenced by Rosen's remarks above, and Mark Shields dumping on Pelosi's trip on Newshour last night.

What is the problem with Dem strategist and pundit class that they just can't get on the same page with the Dem party chair when he's working to SUPPORT our Dem leaders?

Methinks they are busy trying to pull back party power to the powerstructure enabling Dems and away from the Pelosi-Dean-Waxman wing who have been working to hold Bush accountable.

2. Thank you, Governor Richardson.
Here's a man who has done the right thing. He's supported a fellow Democrat against a vacuous and thieving administration's bilious PR smear, and he's stood up for a strong, effective woman who didn't do anything wrong in the first place.

5. I Have ALWAYS Liked Richardson... Even Consider Him A Good VP
choice. As of now... I'm hangin in with JOHNNY as Number One and had thought of Obama as VP, but Richardson is a very good choice! Richardson has a lot of experience, but his links to the Clintons have bothered me some. Plus he is more conservative than some and I've heard he has some close Repuke chums. And no, I can't back-up with a link about the Repukes, but I have heard it more than once.

6. A statement that carries 100 times the weight of the boobs...
Decrying it in the administration...

Richardson has more competence and foreign policy experience in his little toe than shooter, W, Rice....the whole bunch of them have collectively!!!!

9. Richardson is no slouch when it comes to traveling across the planet to
negotiate.

He would instantly recognize the value and skill in Nancy Pelosi's trip, and what's more, he's gracious enough to say so publicly.

The right wing media are attacking her for "bad behavior." Governor Richardson rises to her defense.

Ask me again why I'm a Democrat.

13. I hope our next president has Richardson's love of diplomacy.
We will need it to undo all the damage that Bush Inc has done.
