Saddam Hussein has weapons of mass destruction, Iraq tried to purchase yellowcake from Niger, we will be greeted as liberators with sweets and flowers, the conflict will last perhaps a few months, the troops have the equipment they need, Bin Laden to be captured dead or alive, Mission Accomplished, civilian casualties will be kept to a minimum, collateral damage, enough troops on the ground, victory is around the corner, statue of Saddam falls, we will leave when the Iraqis tell us to leave, Abu Ghraib, a few bad apples, purple fingers, freedom on the march, the evil dictator found in a hidey-hole, democracy taking hold, Hussein in cahoots with Al Qaeda, only unpatriotic Americans ask questions, no ties between Iraq and 9-11, when they stand up we’ll stand down, plastic turkeys, staged photo-ops, Bin Laden not important, we cannot let oil reserves fall into the hands of the enemy, media ignores good news, don’t question a president in time of war, need more troops, Saddam hanged, the Baker report, shared sacrifice, victory just around the next corner, not a civil war, US embassy built on time, two to four hours of electricity per day, hundreds of thousands dead, military broken, more money needed, mercenaries, torture, death, mayhem, destruction, victory just around the next corner, the surge, more money needed, fighting ‘em over there, the War on Terror, Support the Troops, I’m the Decider, need more money, violence is down, the surge is working, victory is just around the next corner, fighting ‘em over there, the front in the War on Terror, a few more weeks, a few more months, a few more years, a few more decades.

American military casualties: 3282.
Iraqi casualties: Inestimable, but in the hundreds of thousands.

End of soundbyte message.

‘Nuff said.

That is all.

1. Iraq is a tetracontakaidigon
A polygon with 42 sides. I figure it needs that many, for all the corners we've supposedly turned.

And, of course, 42 is The Answer to Life, the Universe, and Everything, which is the miracle answer we need in Iraq right now to come out of this with our collective asses intact.

3. Nance, FYI, casualties includes wounded, technically.
Official U.S. dead is 3282, but casualties are much higher, tens of thousands for U.S. - head wounds, lost limbs, other wounds. Not a big thing, but thought I'd mention it. When you list deaths AND living casualties separately, it makes the magnitude of the nightmare even more evident. I don't believe Americans are particularly aware of the number of wounded from 4 YEARS of this disaster.

5. The Iraqi casualties were estimated at 655,000 last year by Lancet.
'Huge rise' in Iraqi death tolls

An estimated 655,000 Iraqis have died since 2003 who might still be alive but for the US-led invasion, according to a survey by a US university.
