DU a few Imus polls (if you feel like it)...
Edited on Mon Apr-09-07 08:18 PM by larissa

I'm surprised so many people are saying that he should NOT be fired. Out of these polls, only Newsday.com so far has more YES votes:

Hartford Courant

"Should Imus be fired for his recent comments?"

http://www.courant.com/news/nationworld/hc-imusweb,0,5500621.story?coll=hc-big-headlines-breaking

~~~
NY1News
"Should Imus be fired for his racially charged comments?"
http://www.ny1.com/ny1/Polls/index.jsp?pollactivequestionintid=2675
~~~

Newsday.Com

"Should WFAN host Don Imus be fired for his racist remarks about Rutgers women's basketball team?
(Halfway down the page on the right)

http://www.newsday.com/entertainment/ny-etsusp0410,0,1442980.story?coll=ny-sports-headlines&vote28891331=1

** BTW, funny Hillary/Obama cartoon on Newsday website (see under "Most e-mailed / Walt Handlesman cartoon")

1. Your AOL link is to Imus' photo - not the poll. I voted in all the others! (n/t)

3. Imus has repeatedly said Cheney is a war criminal
I'd rather keep him around.

4. If Imus goes, we can find someone else to call Cheney a war criminal -
I don't believe it is acceptable to give him a "pass" for horrendous behavior just because he agrees with our political positions some of the time.

8. Actually, it's not.
Imus supported and voted for Kerry. He supported Harold Ford (few white men on TV supported the African American Democrat running in a red state). Imus thought the Dems should win last November to get rid of the Republican corruption. He likes Obama.

Imus is an enemy of the White House. Faux News, mouthpiece for the administration, ran a story on this and is happy about this. They are whispering "gotcha" in the background. They would love to get rid of this loud critic of the current Republican administration and most Repubs in Congress.

He's a reg. Republican, I think he has said. But he is really an Independent who supports politicians on both sides of the aisle, and is philanthropic with causes that others are too scared to touch (incl. lack of research funds for sickle cell anemia and autism).

I'm not making excuses for him. But if you say he's the face of Republicans, you'll be called on it, since everyone who knows him knows that isn't true. He's really an Independent as likely to support Dem. causes as he is Repub. causes.

9. really a libertarian
his view points on personal issues follow libertarian politics more than anything else.

he does support environmental rules, controls over businesses. additionally he has called many politicians to task about issues on autism (mainly republicans).

10. I voted no, I don't think he should be fired.
And, no, that does not make me a racist- I thought Imus' comments were disgusting. I just think it does no long term good to have the man fired. He has apologized and I do not think these comments necessarily make him a racist. He is an equal opportunity insulter. This whole mob push to fire Imus seems more directed at Imus than over the broader issue which is the denigration of many minorities. If there is to be outrage and examples set that denounce this type of shock value talk, it should be evenly distributed and a dialog should be started that address why derogatory comments are so popular. This issue is bigger than just Imus and will not be resolved by pushing Imus out of a job. The man certainly has his faults, but he also does a lot of good for children and our soldiers. And in these acts of charity he does not discriminate.
