Democratic Party Chairman Optimistic About Western Voters
DENVER -- The chairman of the Democratic Party said he believes more western voters will vote Democratic in 2008 because the party convention is being held in Denver.
The party's chairman, Howard Dean, spoke three days before he is scheduled to come to the Mile High City to help kick off preparations for next year's event.
On Monday, Dean told 7NEWS he believes the west is key to the Democrats regaining the presidency.
He said 2007 is an important year to replant the flag of the Democratic party in the West.
Dean added that he thinks voters in this part of the country will respond to Democratic values in 2008, which he said are fairness and toughness.
He said there's a lot of work to be done in Denver to get ready for the convention.
Dean said the issues that have caused tensions between Democrats and organized labor are complicated, but he believes they can be overcome. He also said political conventions still do matter.
"Especially if you go to a place that's not used to having conventions. It really will make a difference," Dean said. "We've already had phenomenal press interest in this already and we're a year and four months away from the kickoff, so I do believe that having the convention in the West is going to make a difference for us."
