How would having a ten-ton monument to the Ten Commandments have prevented
the guy from committing this atrocity?

I mean, there's always a big show about trying to get a ten-ton monument to the Ten Commandments on public grounds to "deter crime" ...

But the NRA psycho-nutwits always point to the signs on a door of a business saying "A sign will not deter a criminal intent on committing a crime" ... so how would posting the Ten Commandments on a place where criminals are unlikely to be hanging around ... miles away from where they live or intend to commit their crime ... stop a criminal if a sign on the targeted place of business wouldn't, either?

1. Nonsense. Of COURSE it would have prevented it.
Speed signs are posted on the nation's highways. That stops drivers from exceeding the speed limit, doesn't it?
_________

At some point we just have to accept the sad fact that the Christian Right is comprised of mentally ill people who want to impose their private limitations onto public policy, an agenda for which they should be rejected, scorned, and hopefully institutionalized.

7. If the killer was not Jewish, Christian or Muslim then ...

... the Ten Commandments monument might have inspired someone to stone to death this heathen for disobeying the first commandment long before this.

9. Same way the death penalty has stopped murders
The monument would be hoisted up about 20 feet in the air and "alleged" criminals placed underneath. The commandments would then be dropped on the suspect. It would be easy to determine guilt or innocence from the shape of the splat.

This would have the added benefit of doing away with annoying appeals.
