RNC to White House: Don't You Worry
By Paul Kiel - April 18, 2007, 11:59 AM

Yesterday, I noted that the Republican National Committee had a choice: turn over Karl Rove's and others' emails to Congress or give them first to the White House for the White House to determine what should be turned over.

The RNC's choice won't shock anyone. From The Washington Post:

"Recognizing the unique and significant nature of the potential privilege issue raised by the committee's requests, the RNC has agreed to the White House's reasonable request," Robert K. Kelner, an RNC lawyer, wrote to Conyers. Conyers responded that the action was "a clear attempt on the administration's part to delay this process."

1. What privilege issue?
The only thing unique and significant here is the level of deception, corruption and treason being practiced by the White House. Executive privilege or interest doesn't extend to covering up criminal wrongdoing.

Is being a Republican prima facie evidence of being an enemy of our constitutional system of government?

3. And in a classic republican attempt to obfuscate,
be stupid or just plain criminal, a couple of weeks ago both tony snow and dan bartlett said bush didn't know about or talk to anyone in the administration about the attorney firings. So all those non conversations have to be covered by executive privilege.

5. I guess it's just criminally stupid. I can imagine that the dub has
no clue about much of what goes on around him. War, money and revenge seem to be all that he can really focus on. I'm sure his handlers spend lots of time trying to get him to grasp what they try to tell him to say.

"Uh, mr president sir, on this issue you say executive privilege. It's the signing statement thingy on the 50,000 other things you want to get away with...."

"Uncle dicky, could you please explain this to me? My brain is getting all fuzzified...this is hard work."

6. The rnc can't be protected by executive privilege
I can't imagine that holding up in any court. Political info is not part of the executive branch. If it was on the RNC server it was political right? According to all of their statements the innocent reason for having the separate system was just to separate the political from the policy to be good boys and girls and avoid violating the Hatch Act.

Giving them the benefit of the doubt that this wasn't covering up anything deliberately, and that all correspondance on their servers was only political, there is no justifiable reason to withhold info from Congress. There is no National Security issue- why would anything like that be on a Political server?

What sort of political communication would be necessary after 2004 for WH people anyway? They are not running the party but a campaign that finished.

They are trying to have their cake and eat it too. The point is that once they say this is political communication on unsecured servers (compared to the WH network) then there is no privacy, no privilege, nothing.

It is clearly an organized criminal conspiracy involving the RNC people as well. There is no legitimate reason to delete emails after 30 days without archiving other than hiding evidence.

It's a showdown brewing I am sure.
