No, I don't live there; I'm on the Connecticut coastline. But I go through Northampton a bunch of times a year on my way to Vermont, and like your town enough that I'd drive up there just for the hell of it and to have lunch with a DUer.

I know Fitzwilly's because I had a pair of real good friends (lesbian couple, big surprise for Northampton, yes?) who lived there in the Seventies, and whenever I was in the area we'd go there for dinner.

Have you been there lately? Do they still make a terrific Reuben?

I got me one of those a couple of weeks ago.

Friend gave us this way cool big carved bowl.

I was drunk and walking around the den with the bowl in my hands (it is maybe 3 feet wide) trying to find a place for it.

Dog runs behind me and clips me at the knee.

Over and backwards, big-time.

Clip a rock-solid (maybe 200lbs) teak coffee table with the base of my dear old cranium. Moved that table maybe a foot.

Came to in a sitting position.

Did the requesite body survey.

Hands/fingers, fine.

Legs/feet, no way... nothing.

For maybe 5 minutes.

Scared the shit out of me.

And pissed me off.

Just the thought of being killed by a Golden Retriever...

one or the other of the casinos...damn, I just HAD to be from a New Hampshire tribe. Wish my ancestors had the sense to move down here and join up with the Pequots or Mohegans when the getting was good. But NO, they had to take those blankets instead.

(90% of the tribe did get wiped out by disease in the 1600s, so I already know that I should buy my bedding at the store. But if the white-eyes want to stand me to a round of firewater at the Main Street Taven, they're more than welcome to.)
