Can we talk about Harry Reid?

Harry's been toe to toe with Il Dunce for quite a few weeks now. He's threatening to defund if Il Dunce doesn't compromise. His rhetoric has been increasingly confrontational and ... well ...... bellicose or pugilistic.

What's your opinion of Harry?

Personally, I like the guy. But I'm more interested in what you think. If you don't care for him, you'll get no real argument from me. Its your right to feel any way you wish.

1. he was a boxer in college
I think he floats like a butterfly and stings like a bee. I think pugnacious is good, if he can deliver the knockout.

3. For such a soft spoken guy, he's raising his voice a lot more and more.
I like him personally. I think he's doing a fine job in the Senate. He's reasonable, yet reasonable with a backbone.

4. He'd Better NOT Weasel Out, Nor Let Levin Nor Lieberman Do It
Let's hope Bush crossed that line in the sand beyond which Harry won't give in. The country can't take much more of this masochistic minuet.

5. My admiration for the guy went sky-high when he told bush** that
Iraq was 'lost'.

If he backs down AT ALL, then I guess he's no better than the other enablers.

We'll see...

11. How does the Gang of 14 relate to Reid?
He wasn't a member of it.

None of the rest of the Dems supported the gang.

8. I think Harry is smart. Smart like a whip. And practical. And PATIENT.
I think Harry sees the big picture and takes the long view.

He's a bit too conservative for me on some social issues, but in the matter of the war, I think he understands what we CAN do, and what we can't. And what we WANT to do, as well. And he wants to make what we want to do what we can do--and that takes patience and horsetrading.

He'll get there. The Senate is a collegial body. He can find common ground with some across the aisle...and play the game of compromise on other issues.

Smart fellah, that Harry.

15. I don't like him.
He comes off as unorganized as a leader.

He needs to learn to speak with more authority. He is not convincing in his speech. And he often says something strong and then back-tracks when he is confronted on his comments.

He should take speaking lessons from Pelosi or Schumer. Look them in the eye and speak with confidence.

18. His style.
I feel that his style takes away from what he is trying to say.

I wish he was more assertive, more commanding in his speech.
He doesn't exhibit confidence.

19. Reid SHOULD NOT take speaking lessons from Pelosi
Egads. I think she's terrific, but she is terrible on camera and when making remarks.

Pelosi got where she was not by her abilities in front of the camera, but from her tireless and savvy work behind the scenes whipping Democrats together in the past few years.

Reid's role in terms of speaking seems to be to give the press the "gut check", fit of honesty quote representing the Democratic side. He's sort of unpredictable, but as evidenced by the war funding votes, no matter what he says, he seems to deliver what we want him to. Unlike say, Specter, who says the right thing, but gives us the opposite. Reid scared a lot of us with his words before the war funding vote, but when it was concluded, we did better than he ever promised we would.

Methinks the man is crazy like a fox and I should let him do his thing.

22. I don't like him either: his wife was "grandfathered" in to continue her lobbying career
under the so called NEW and more stringent "clean up of corruption" within the Congress.

Sure, you want to have your PRESENT folk approved because they are already there ... not upstanding but understandable for most, but NOT the Majority Leader in the Senate.

Beyond the above, Reid, like Biden, talk a good game but don't follow through with any TRUE action. The latest *non-binding* withdrawal resolution is another example of Reid being merely a "paper tiger." He's part of the problem and should be ousted. Unfortunately, he won't do the right thing and Heaven forbid one of his fellow Senators risk their Career to set him straight. :grr:

I know he would retaliate. For that, I adore the man. I don't always agree but I know that he's a fighter and is doing his best. Reid fights back and is not a pushover.

29. Strong and crusty. Right out of the "Old West".
If ever the Democratic Party wanted to shed the image of the East Coast/West Coast liberal elite it will be done with more people like Harry Reid. A good example of moving on the right direction is the election of Sen. Jon Tester of Montana.

Reid? Don't trust him, but I don't expect much from the Senate, regardless of which party's in charge.
