Who'll be Bush's next hatchetman?
by Ed Kociela | Apr 24 2007 -

Maybe we really ought to rethink this Alberto Gonzales thing a little.

Yeah, we know he has been nothing but a puppet for the Bush administration since he was appointed; that his office very likely tried to pass on political influence to the key federalistas who ended up on the unemployment line; that he has probably been lying through his pearly whites; that he is stubborn, vain and doesn't believe he is accountable to anybody but Boy George.

BUT!

With the word coming out of Washington, D.C. that Sen. Orrin Hatch, the dullard from Utah, is probably standing in the wings as possibly the next U.S. Attorney General is equally as frightful.

Hatch, who always looks like his top button is tightened a half-inch too tight, is about to give up his gig. Reliable sources claim he has already decided not to run next time, even though as a corpse, he could probably win an election in Utah, the reddest of the red states.

1. Gonzo is a big dumb lightning rod
and as long as he's in place
he's deflecting scrutiny into Rove,
Cheney, Miers, Bush etc...

They'll leave him there until he's no longer useful.

2. The Dems could impeach Gonzo in a heartbeat, but why do the Repos dirty work
for them?

I can just se the ads in 08 running in the swing states where the USAs were fired, and the clips of Gonzo lying through his teeth.

In the mean time, more info will surface, more hearings will be held, immunity may be offered, and the Repos are just going to have to bite the bullet and figure out a way to get rid of Gonzo themselves. Either bush will fire him to try to maintain some kind of support in the Repo congress or the Repos may just move to impeach him themselves.
