There are a lot of other interesting results in this poll...such as 57% favor a bill requiring the U.S. to "start" (how fast the poll does not say) withdrawing all troops by a specific date, and 61% favoring benchmarks with no date certain for starting withdrawl.

41% of Americans agree with our Majority leader Reid that "the war is lost." 55% disagree.

8. My husband is an Air Force officer, and he has been deployed
to the Middle East twice in three years. He only spent a brief amount of that time in Iraq, but next deployment we won't be so lucky, I predict.

My fifth war zone tour at 33 if you count Bosnia and Kosovo in the late 90's........

My seventh overseas tour at 33 if you count my two tours in Korea in 2ID.

What's your point?

2. The U.S. is sick of this war
Where we wish to win, we know a war that was deceitful to start with, has little chance of success. No one with a conscience can sleep well knowing the innocent Iraqis we killed.

7. You might check www.rasmussenreports.com
and it is rightwing. We've had enough of this so called war. Iraq never was a danger to us and we are killing thousands of Iraqis. That is what is sinking into Americans. Slowly, but it is coming.

9. Here's a poll from March.
Edited on Wed May-09-07 12:14 AM by calteacherguy
Not as recent, and the questions are different than the CNN poll.

Fifty-four percent (54%) now believe the U.S. mission in Iraq will ultimately be deemed a failure, which is unchanged from last month. There are almost as many short-term pessimists, with 49% expecting the situation in Iraq to worsen over the next six months. Only 28% think things will improve during that period.

10. The majority will only acknowledge defeat when it's too late.
They'll only acknowledge it when President Sadr proclaims the country free from US/UK influence.

11. Your title doesn't really reflect the question that 60% opposed.
Q. 21 One proposal would not provide additional funds for US troops in Iraq and would require the US to withdraw all its troops by March 2008. Do you favor or oppose that bill?

Favor 39%
Oppose 60%
No Opinion 2%

I think this is more a reflection of cutting off funding completely before the troops are out of Iraq, than it is setting a timeline (March 2008) for withdrawal.

15. The 60% weren't opposing March '08 withdrawal
They were oppositng a combination of no additional funding and the March deadline.

That's hardly surprising, as most probably haven't heard a case why defunding might be tbe only way of getting withdrawal. I'm actually impressed that 39% were in favor at this stage.
