My coworker Wingnut was in my office and told me
He's probably sitting out the '08 election. There isn't a Republican he can vote for, and while he might vote for Fred Thompson he doesn't think anyone would vote for someone with lymphoma. Man I hope this is a sign!

He also asked me if I backed Hillary, I told him she's not my first choice and I wouldn't vote for her in the primary, but if she became the nominee I'm almost 100% I'd vote for her.

Hope this is the difference in '08 - a bunch of unhappy wingnuts and fundies sitting on their hands at home on election day while Dems are out there motivated.

1. I've heard about the same.
The Republicons I know don't much care for ANY of the candidates. After Bush, they really want another Reagan to restore some balance. But alas for them, there are no Reagan clones awaiting in the wings.

They also said the Dems seem to have more party unity now than the GOP, which is a big change. I think they're right.

Hillary is not my first choice either, but if she's the Dem candidate, I'm 100% certain she will get my vote.

I do get the feeling a lot of them will be sitting out the 2008 election, just to see what happens. This will likely be a good thing for the Democratic Party, and for America.

4. Isn't that how it works...
They accuse us of 'toeing the party line' and being 'liberals' and 'socialists' and whatever buzzword their 'leaders' tell them to use. Yeah, we're the ones with closed minds and pushing ideology over our country.

But when the rubber meets the road, they are the ones saying, "But I could never vote for a Democrat."

Let them sit. I hope they do. I'm tired of my country being run by a bunch of religious fanatics and corporate whores.

7. I've had several Republicons mention to me that Hillary is a socialist.
I tell them I'd prefer a socialist over a fascist dictator.

Then I make comparisons between * and Hitler. That usually shuts them up.

I'm fine with them staying at home. From this point forward, if they want to. Most of the problems we have can be traced back to some Republicon. In my lifetime, the really big scandals have always been on the GOP side:

- Watergate
- Iran Contra
- Bushgate (for lack of a better word)

And, there are others, like the savings and loan bailout, which also had a Bush Crime Family™ star player in it.

On the Democratic side, I can think of:

- The Clinton BJ (which I believe should have been a private matter, and in spite of years of investigations, no other wrongdoing was ever found.)

So, stay home Republicons. Let the Democrats fix your mess, once again.

14. I've heard that too...
But I heard a new one lately on another board.

Get this.......a poster spent 5 or 6 paragraphs defining and explaining the 'fact' that Hitler was a socialist. Can you believe it? :silly:

The whole concept just really floored me.

20. He is confused by the name...
http://209.85.165.104/search?q=cache:58fq8a_WClAJ:www.spartacus.schoolnet.co.uk/GERnazi.htm+Nazi+Socialist&hl=en&ct=clnk&cd=6&gl=us&client=firefox-a

In April, 1920, Hitler advocated that the party should change its name to the National Socialist German Workers Party (NSDAP). Hitler had always been hostile to socialist ideas, especially those that involved racial or sexual equality. However, socialism was a popular political philosophy in Germany after the First World War. This was reflected in the growth in the German Social Democrat Party (SDP), the largest political party in Germany.

Hitler, therefore redefined socialism by placing the word 'National' before it. He claimed he was only in favour of equality for those who had "German blood". Jews and other "aliens" would lose their rights of citizenship, and immigration of non-Germans should be brought to an end.

17. Do ANY of these fools get it, yet, that HRC is the farthest to the RIGHT
(arguably) of the Democratic contenders?

Maybe it's just as well that they don't. Still, annoying, isn't it?

I don't expect wingnuts to love HRC, nor for that matter do I expect HRC to catch any breaks from anyone without earning them. But damn, this idea that she's an extremist is quite pervasive, and completely without merit.

3. Is there a wedge issue this guy is susceptible to - like illegal immigration? I wonder
if the GOP will be able to get apathetic voters out by whipping up this issue. It seems to have started already.

9. Don't believe him, he may think he will not vote, but come election
week the RW social machine will be out in force. His total social network will be there to pick him up and drag his butt to the polls. GOP poll watchers will put out an all points capture and drag to the polls if he doesn't vote by a certain time. Do you think GOP poll watchers are there to just knit?

22. Yep
a little GOP brainwashing and disenfranchising goes a long way! Especially when it comes to the White House job.

10. This next election is definitely ours to lose, and that is my main concern with
HRC. Of all the candidates she is the one that has the potential to galvanized the fascists and provide the motivation they currently lack.

If he doesn't show up to do it in person, Diebold will see to it his vote is counted. Very convenient, don't have to leave the house, just THINK republican.

13. Anecdotal, but I've seen the same thing
So-called "values voters" (i.e., anti-choice) who were shocked, I tell you, shocked to learn that the Mittster only switched to anti-choice to pander for votes, and that Ghouliani actually didn't have a problem with gays ... they're saying they have no one to vote for and will just stay home.

I hope they keep their word.

15. Hillary will unite them

I'm not sure what it is, but Hillary Clinton would unite the right like nothing since the Clenis.

The right are disillusioned, frustrated, apathetic about their candidates and the drive to vote as it stands right now is just not there, but if you put Hillary there, they will vote en masse.

18. No reason not to run Hillary, though
We can't base our decisions out of fear that the other guy's going to be, like, all mean and stuff.

And mind you, HRC's about my fourth choice at best.

16. The GOP is thinking up a wedge issue
to get the voters out.
They may not like who is running, but, once again, they will HAVE to vote to keep our country safe from Gays/ terror/gun takeaways....something.
They will scream that if they dont vote, life as we know it will end.
Count on it.

And even the Dems don't like their choices.

I hope that's NOT a sign.
