I Smell the Birth of a rightist talking point...
Edited on Sun May-20-07 04:55 PM by MarianJack
...that has previously failed.

On a local youth debate up here in Maine and on a C-Span Book note last night, I saw the same tactic used. On each show, there was a low level rw mouthpiece pronouncing that they believe in liberal policies and share the desires expressed by the voters last November. They insist, however, that the people who are best suited to bring about the change the voters desire are the conservative republicans, not the "left wing of the Democratic party".

So basically what they're saying (I have rw acquaintances who CRINGE when I start a sentence that way) is "We are the ones who fucked it up, so your only choice is to trust us to un-fuck it up"! Of course, those who stood against this cluster-fuck of an administration are TOTALLY unqualified to implement their beliefs, but those who ARE STILL ass-kissing this president can be relied upon to fix his mess.

I believe that. I also believe that after I gave $50 to a guy I spoke to in the Supermarket, I am the new owner of the Brooklyn Bridge! I'm also awaiting Jean Claude Van Damme's next film, which will surely garner him that long overdue Oscar!

Fortunately for us, the "modern" republican party is almost as hostile to the study of History as they are to the study of Science. In 1936, one of the republican strategies was to claim that FDR's
New Deal reforms were the right thing for the country, but that THEY, not FDR & the Democrats, were the ones who could best implement those reforms. It worked, too. Alf Landon carried 2 whole states!

It somewhat reminds me of the tactic used about 2 years ago, when they would spew every bit of bush glorification and ass-kissing they could (usually including the "theres a lot of good things going on over there!" line of bullshit) and then concluding with "...and I'm a liberal Democrat, too"!

UHHH, no liberal Democrat kisses THIS president's ass!

I don't really expect this to take hold. It appears to be at the trial balloon stage. But while I can't believe the public will swallow this, there is still a complicit, corrupt media helping them. I also have learned that there is no depth of brazenness to which this utterly bankrupt of ideas republican party will not sink.

PEACE!

1. Alf?
Anyone named Alf deserved to carry more than just two states on that name alone. :)

The right-wing likes to take ideas from others and claim them as their own.Nothing new there,as your posts nicely demonstrates.

3. I agree with you that this talking point won't take hold.
The incompetence of the right has become so obvious that even their propaganda machine can't hide it.

6. This "left wing of the Democratic Party" is a new talking meme alright
Usually they just dismiss the entire DemocRAT Party as being low down dirty liberals.

Wonder where they are going with this "left wing of the Democratic Party" thing.

12. Yeah there is, but sssshush, the right wing of the Democratic Party
doesn't like the public to know there is a right wing of the Democratic Party.

First they called themselves the DLC. Then the New Dems. Now they are calling themselves Blue Dogs. Always hiding behind new names and always saying the prior group is not them. Smoke and mirrors.

Also, One thing I forgot to mention is that since I smell the birth of a talking point, it, like all things that come from the far right, smells pretty bad!
