Midlanders help fill coffers
BY ROBYNN TYSVER
WORLD-HERALD STAFF WRITER

Iowa may be a favored stomping ground for presidential candidates wooing caucus-goers, but Nebraska kept pace in filling the candidates' coffers in the first three months of this year.

Omaha investor Warren Buffett gave the maximum $4,600 to Democrat Hillary Rodham Clinton, while Omaha banker Bruce Lauritzen donated $4,600 to Republican Mitt Romney, according to first-quarter financial reports.

In all, Nebraskans gave $118,100 to 11 of the 18 presidential candidates in the field, according to the Center for Responsive Politics, which reviewed the candidates' disclosure reports.

In Iowa, home to the nation's first presidential test next January, donors gave $131,380 to 14 of the 18 candidates.

Iowans also donated $108,500 in the first quarter to favorite son Tom Vilsack, the state's former governor who has pulled out of the race.

In both states, Romney scored well.
