Pablo Paredes was a Petty Officer Third Class and weapons-control technician in the United States Navy who refused to board the USS Bonhomme Richard as it deployed to the Persian Gulf, December 6, 2004 as part of the Operation Iraqi Freedom.
Camilo Mejia , author of
Road From Ar Ramadi . Convicted of desertion and sentenced to a year in prison, Staff Sergeant Camilo Mejía was declared a prisoner of conscience by Amnesty International. The book tells his story from his upbringing in Central America and his experience as a working-class immigrant in the United States to his service in Iraq—where he witnessed prisoner abuse and was deployed in the Sunni triangle—and time in prison.
Jeff Patterson Marine Corporal Jeff Paterson was the first public military objector who sat down on the runway to refuse deployment to the Kuwait War of 1991. He has tirelessly spoken out and organized against war since then and is actively involved with www.couragetoresist.org
Michael Wong contributed to the book- Veterans of War- Veterans of Peace and is featured in the film Sir, No Sir. He turned against the Viet Nam war and deserted to Canada where he served in security work defending the Rochdale College hippie com- munity from war by the Toronto Police. Mr. Wong is an active member of Bay Area Veterans for Peace, and a conspicuous supporter of Lt.
Ehren Watada, the first commissioned officer to refuse deployment to Iraq.
