New presidential directive gives Bush dictatorial power
National Security & Homeland Security Presidential Directive establishes "National Continuity Policy"

The National Security and Homeland Security Presidential Directive, signed on May 9, 2007 declares that in the event of a “catastrophic event”, George W. Bush can become what is best described as "a dictator":

"The President shall lead the activities of the Federal Government for ensuring constitutional government."

This directive, completely unnoticed by the media, and given no scrutiny by Congress, literally gives the White House unprecedented dictatorial power over the government and the country, bypassing the US Congress and obliterating the separation of powers. The directive also placed the Secretary of Homeland Security in charge of domestic “security”.

The full text is below. A critical analysis on the directive can be found here.

This is another step towards official martial law (see “US government fans homeland security fears”), which suggests that a new "catastrophic event" 9/11-type pretext could be in the pipeline.

1. There have been several posts on this directive
over the last few days. everytime it comes up I K&R it because it's so-o important for the people to know what's going on. Why would * issue such a directive unless he has nefarious intentions? I'm now going to read what globalresearch has to say. Thanks! K&R

2. Just ask one question
What does Bush have to look forward to when he leaves office?

Answer: Nothing

If he has the power to issue such a directive it can't be for future use by another President, so it's for him to become the tyrant he's always wanted to be.

6. Yes, But I like this one because it has the word 'Dictatorial" clearly stated in
the title. Perhaps with 'Dictatorial" enough folks and please SOMEONE IN Congress will Wake Up enough to notice what this excuse for an administration is DOING!!!! Thanks for the K&R's. Maybe if this is at the top of DU for a week we can get our elected officials to have a clue.

How about a DU email campaign to Flood their offices with this?

3. We have to keep posting about this one... It is very scary..
And conjures up all kinds of temptation for the criminal element in the WH to call ANY damn thing a “catastrophic event”.
I keep asking.. What Statutory power does a Presidential "directive" have? Will it be necessary for Congress to legislate against it? Will they even think they should consider moving against it? Or will they just blithely assume that there will never be a “catastrophic event”, and figure they can worry about after it happens....

(Like from behind bars... I hear you can do some GOOD deliberatin' once the doors are locked)

10. Why would Congress do anything about this directive.....
since they voted for the Patriot Act I & II? This is just worse.

8. I do as well...
And I have a bad feeling that all of us posting here at DU are going to find ourselves labeled "enemy combatants".

9. So all they need is an attack, and no more investigations! Swell! What are they waiting for?
They don't even have to blow up D.C., if there's an attack, no more Congress! No more Supreme Court. NO '08 ELECTIONS! NO MORE AMERICA!!!!!

Boy, Pelosi and Reid are really doing a heckuva job of oversight now that we're in the majority and Bush's approval is at an all time low! Keep it up gang!

12. Pelosi and Reid can't see the forest for the trees!
They're so involved in caving in on the funding of the war and delaying immigration reform that they don't consider what's going on behind the curtain....they're kissing their 'power' and position THAT WE WORKED HARD TO GIVE THEM good-bye.

13. Kick for the evening crowd to question their Congress critters about...
Bush has just told us he is about to make himself 'The Dictator Guy' and make the other branches of government irrelevant...Yoo Hoo!!!...Any Congress Critters listening?

Call your members of congress and ask them where they stand.

I know what Kay Bailey 'whatever the Chimp says' Hutchison is going to do but I'm gonna call her and the 'depressing excuse for a senator' Cornyn anyway :eyes:

Lloyd Doggett's call will probably perk me up!:patriot:
