Hello!? America here, anybody listening out there?
Hey! Hello! You up there in your ivory towers! Yeah, you! Don’t bother trying to hide; we can see you up there. In the last election we decided to give you majorities in both houses of congress. Now we’re going to be 100% candid with you. We didn’t elect you for the positions you hold because you offered us a better way of governmental functioning. We didn’t vote for you because we liked your campaign promises more. We voted for you for one reason, to end the war. Now many of you have children, but none of you have children who are serving in Iraq. You don’t know what it’s like to loose your son, your father, your friend, your mother, your sister, or your brother to a misplaced war of choice. The person who currently occupies the white house lead us down this path, and we put you in power because we thought you could, among other things, provide our loved ones with a way out. Unfortunately you choose not to do your duty. You allowed this child to pressure you into dropping what we the people wanted from your last bill. Now more of our friends and family are going to have to suffer for your decision.

In the last 12 years, we the people have sat by and watched the Democratic Party scramble for some sort of position. You were never a unified front. You never stood on principle. When the Republicans in the senate were pushing for a rule change to keep you from filibustering district court judges, you could have shut the senate down for a few days to give the leadership a taste of what it’d be in for if they’d really decided to pull that nuclear crap. Believe us when we tell you, we would have stood behind you if you had given us anything to stand behind.

Don’t get me wrong, some of us (whom we shall refer to as your Base) stood by you from the beginning hoping that you would come out of your funk. They worked at the grass roots level to get you elected to the people’s congress. With this disastrous war vote, that you didn’t even have to make, some of your Base might decide to leave you. We, the rest of America, might not be able to help you out in the next election if many folk in your Base decide to defect.

We have high hopes that this is just a minor bump in the road. We hope that you use your political power to enforce our will on the Executive Branch. If, however, you continue to allow this petulant fool of a man to hold you and your bills hostage, then we will be forced to do the unthinkable. Many of us will never again stoop to the level of voting for a Republican, you have our word on that. If you continue on this rancid course of action, never using the political will we’ve given you, then most of us will simply sit out the next election. We’ll wash our hands of the whole process and hope like hell that when IT hits the fan, we have big enough umbrellas to weather the constitutional crisis that you and your political opponents have allowed to coalesce. You may have come to the conclusion that we’ll vote for you because the opposite is too terrifying to behold, but you’re wrong. We want you to know that.

We the people have a choice in whom we elect to represent us. If, however, you refuse to do your duty, we also have a choice as to whether or not we will participate in the political process. If we give you all, Republicans and Democrats alike, enough rope to hang yourselves with, eventually the slumbering fools that make up a good portion of our number will awake. When that day comes, we’ll toss you all out on your ears and remake the country in our image.

We love our country, and we love the ideals it stands for. What we don’t love is what every one of you, and every one of us, has allowed to happen to it.
