Who is waiting for Carter to enter the race?
Jimmy Carter has grown tremendously in the years since he left office.

Carter has more experience and he has spoken out on many important issues with more moral authority than all the candidates combined.

While Carter has not CURRENTLY running for president, I cannot find any "Shermanesque" statement that he will say no to a "draft Carter" campaign.

So what that this weekend will feature the second Democratic candidates debate which won't include him?

So what that the other candidates have raised almost a $100,000,000 and so have fund-raising head start?

So what that his current "non-candidate" status suggests either a lack of enthusiasm for the campaign or a lack of decisiveness (either of which would be a huge handicap to any eventual candidacy)?

SO WHAT IF THE CURRENT FIELD OF CANDIDATES IS BURSTING AT THE SEAMS WITH TALENT AND POTENTIAL?!

Who else is waiting for Carter to enter the race?

{NOTE TO SELF: Insert generic threat not to support Hillary, Edwards, or Obama if Carter doesn't get the nomination}

16. I am now!
I was wishing last night that somehow we would find our new American "Cincinnatus", but was forlorn not thinking of anyone to fuill the shoes.

I think Jimmy Carter is the only prominent Democrat with the integrity to do so.

Good thought, Czolgosz ! (BTW, I LOVE your handle! Anyway you can get up-close and personal with Dubya? <grin>)

4. Isn't he in his 80's?? I think e might be a little too old. Having said that, I believe he would m
make an excellent president - better than he did the first time. With maturity comes wisdom, etc.

7. why not run Robert Byrd as his running mate!
I mean, if you want to support an 82 year old for President, how about a 90 year old VP?

12. McCain would be 72 when he took office (if he was electable, which he isn't).
"In a USA TODAY/Gallup Poll taken March 2-4, ... one in 10 say they wouldn't vote for a woman or Hispanic, and just one in 20 say they wouldn't vote for a black, Jew or Catholic. There is more opposition to voting for a 72-year-old (40% rule that out)...."

20. Yep he's a bit old... He and Rosalyn got married the day Chimpy was born!
And that is literally true. Look it up.

I'd like someone of his courage and substance too. But I think if there's a comeback to be had, it would be Al Gore.

17. I'll take the bait.
Those of us who are hoping and praying he gets into the race believe he is the person for the job-BY FAR.....the same way you feel about whoever gets your support.

There is so much nastiness on DU lately.... do we have to start a whole new way to piss each other off?

18. Carter could win
If they ran him against Strom Thurmond.
Seriously, Carter was pretty much a victim of circumstances. No one could have been considered a good President when the Israeli war caused the Arab boycott which tripled gas prices (when you could find gas to buy). Add the hostage crisis to that and you're pretty well screwed. If he had one major 'flaw' it was that he was too moral. (I know that sounds quite ironic today.) He would sit and agonize over the ethical and moral questions before using the awesome power that he held. One of Reagan's assets was that the rest of the world knew he was crazy and liable to do anything, so they didn't want to provoke him.

26. well, i meant it in the slimey sneaky sense.
where the media trumped up bullshit, and the saudis jacked up the price of oil as much to wreck the u.s. economy, and jimmy with it, as to make themselves rich. (although somehow these guys always get rick in the process of ruining people/places/things.) they practiced on jimmy the tools/methods that they later used on bill, and pretty much everyone who opens their mouth against them.
jfk- :tinfoilhat: could be. i seriously do not know.

it is this type of post that drives many away from DU during the primary season and I think it is a shame. The good news is that for every trash post there is something going up that is of value.

29. I'm still reading Carter's new book..
and I have learned allot about the history of Israel and Palestine so far.

I hope all Presidential hopefuls at least read some of Carter's recent books, because they can learn allot from this former President. Carter never tries to cover too many subjects in a single book, like Clinton did in "My Life". that makes each one of Carter's books more interesting and thoughtful.

unfortunately I know Carter will never run again, but I always pay attention before I vote to who he endorses..especially this time with such a crowded field.
