Bush mask for dunk tank forbidden
So much for freedom of speech in Lehighton, PA.

http://www.mcall.com/news/columnists/all-5dunk-a.5878631jun02,0,1950052.column?coll=all-news-col

<snip>Pool Pals lined up a nice group of dignitaries to be dunked. But when word got out that one dunkee might wear a George W. Bush mask, the politics hit the fan.

<snip>''This attempt at humor has no place in today's environment,'' harrumphed a Lehighton Times News editorial.

<snip>A day later, with the world watching, the Carbon County commissioners voted to oppose dunking Bush as well.

1. ...insult the president, you insult everyone who wears the uniform...
''This attempt at humor has no place in today's environment,'' harrumphed a Lehighton Times News editorial. ''We are at war, and President Bush is the supreme commander of our armed forces. Let us not forget this. This is no time to treat him as a joke, not even for a legitimate fundraiser. You insult the president, you insult everyone who wears the uniform of the United States Armed Forces.''

I'm going to give you more of this idiotic editorial, but consider that statement. Comedians have been mocking presidents since George Washington was sanding his wooden teeth. Are you telling me that they all were insulting our armed forces as well? It's an outrageous assertion.

2. Well, there was a potential for injury
because some folks would be tempted to go after the guy instead of the dunker.

It would have made a fortune for a worthy cause, though.

If the real Stupid ever did it, expect somebody to sneak a few piranhas into the tank. Hungry ones.

3. Making fun of Hitler or Crazy Joe Stalin wasn't permitted either.
In these times we must all stand united behind The Leader.

4. Wonderful! I'm driving through this little shithole of a town today
to visit friends in Tamaqua, I'll be sure to laugh at them as I pass by.

5. As if a similar hissy fit would have happened if Clinton were still
president. That's what bothers me -- how it's okay to do what was done to a Democrat but "an insult to our armed forces" to do it to a Republican.

7. "....instead, the Bush mask was fitted onto the underpaid portapotty cleaning boy."
"We had to do something with it. We were worried that they would fine us if we simply threw it out."
