Former Senator John Edwards Stops in Las Vegas
KLAS-TV (Las Vegas)
Satuday, June 2, 2007

----
Another Presidential hopeful makes a campaign stop in Las Vegas. Former North Carolina Senator John Edwards addressed members of the Culinary Workers Union Saturday.

The Union's support is considered key to winning Nevada's Democratic Caucus in January. This union is negotiating a new contract with MGM-Mirage and Harrah's. A temporary day-to-day extension has been signed.

John Edwards on Saturday told workers to stand up and stand strong. Edwards, like his opponents, received a warm welcome from the Culinary Workers Union Local 226. He told the crowd he would be a pro-union, pro-working person's president.

Contracts covering 50,000 members of the Culinary Union expired two days ago. As the union and the hotels negotiate pay and benefits, Edwards says he'll be union-strong during the campaign, and if elected to the white house.

"It's not politics for me, or academic. This is my life. Standing up for the little guy. I've always done it, and I always will," said Edwards.

If talks stall and this turns into a big labor dispute, Edwards pledged he would be back to stand by the workers. He also called for a ban on hiring permanent replacements when workers strike.

Other issues he touched on Saturday included health care for all Americans, paid for by cutting out tax cuts for the wealthiest Americans, getting our troops out of Iraq, and sky high gas prices. He called for the Justice Department to investigate whether record profit-making oil companies are doing anything illegal.

1. Did He Tell Them Why?
Why he voted for job-obliterating permanent 'free' trade with China? That's not exactly a vote for the little guy.

2. Ouch
I really am starting to believe Edwards will tell anyone anything to get elected.
