Fred Thompson will fall flat on the Iraq War
``Part of what we do has got to be offensive,'' Thompson told ``Fox News Sunday.'' ``And when we know that we have someone like Saddam, who has shown the capability in times past of using whatever he's got -- we know he's got biological, we know he's got chemical, we know he's undoubtedly working on nuclear...

Republicans are trying to position him as the "therapy" candidate who will undo their malaise, but the fact is he's no different than each of their candidates who at yesterday's debate unanimously said "knowing now what we do", Bush was still right to invade Iraq.

2. General Electric's Thompson is dangerous
Fred Thompson himself should not be taken seriously. However, the GOP has the ability to turn him into a winner.
The last GOP nominee who also worked for General Electric was Reagan. He was elected twice.
General Eleectirc own NBC. NBC produces Law and Order. Fred Thompson is GE's candidate.
All negatives about Fred Thompson will disappear in an Election because GE is his and NBC's pay master.
NBC / GE has nothing to gain from dismissing Thompson in fact GE needs the Iraq War and the War on Terror to continue it makes huge profits from arms sales and the War on Terror drives up ratings as it keeps people frightened in front of the TV.
Additionally, GE owns Universal Pictures and they make money out of films that depict the War on Terror etc.

Bottom line: America does not need Fred Thompson GE, NBC and other corporates do.

4. precisely
thompson the man is irrelevant

the "packaged" thompson is what we are up against, and when the machine gets through with the makeover the campaign will be nothing but fact vs fiction

his emergence is clear evidence that the machine is alive and well and planning a repeat.

he should NOT be dismissed.

Actually, I think a rope-a-dope strategy is best. Let the machine push him to the front, knock out the rest, and then go all-out against not him but the cynical machinations. Don't get into serious debate with him as if he ever had an original idea - make it clear that he is a front man for the monstrosity that has infected the country, and run against that monstrosity - with bush/cheney its most visible representatives. Make it crystal clear that he is the "stay the course" candidate because all he is capable of is reading a script - and the same writers are writing the script as did so for nixon, reagan, bush/bush
