We need to advocate more for our democratic presidential hopefuls!
Edited on Fri Jun-08-07 10:46 PM by bufffbison
Earlier this week my instructor asked if I would assist him with entering data from questionnaires he administered to 1000 participants. So he gave me 400 of them to start on. Without going into too much detail about the survey content, it asked the participant his/her likelihood of voting for one of the top 4 presidential candidates, (Clinton, Giuliani, McCain, and Obama), what they think is the candidate’s beliefs, and areas of topic interests. It also included what areas of interest in each candidate would persuade the participant to vote for that particular candidate………After entering data from about 200 questionnaires, nearly 60-65% of them reported they would vote either for Giuliani or McCain, but most of them selected Giuliani. And Hillary taking majority of the remaining percentages. I think this is alarming. (I know its still early yet) BUT, to have this big of support for a republican candidate (in a liberal area) especially supporting Giuliani is beginning to convince me majority of Americans would vote for him if the election was held today. I based this on the data I entered so far and it looks like this may be the trend for now.

But since we do have a lot of time, we need to begin organizing things so we know a democratic candidate will be voted to the WH. At this point, I almost don’t care which D is president, as long as he or she bring our troops home and stabilize our country!

1. You didn't indicate what part of the country you're in...

Or what sort of group it was.

Not enough information.. sorry.

4. here are some of the demographics...
majority of the participants live in Dayton, ohio. The ages ranged from 18-63, median age is about 41.5, males represented about 58% of the questionnaire, 45% indicated they were either undecided or were indifferent among the candidates available to choose from. additionally, the surveys included a question if the participant preferred a different candidate and they may write the candidates name. however of the 200 I processed so far, only 13 wrote in a different candidate. there is one possible influential variable that may persuade participants to select one of the four candidates and not write a different candidate is that the questionnaire included a formal picture of presidential candidate. i cannot disclose much more than this because we're still processing the data. i will post the results when we're finished.

5. Ah, bb.. don't worry..

Even in areas that are paying attention to the '08 election more than others -- the majority of poll results right now are still based on name recognition first and foremost.

I don't have a candidate yet.

But I know one thing.. if I did have a favorite --- and they were the current frontrunner --- THEN I'd be worried.

BTW.. Dayton, huh? Have you ever been to a Bomber's game before?

6. By now some people have heard of Guilliani's Problems
and are willing to overlook them.

Recently Peter Hart(Democratic Pollster) held a focus
group on C_Span. 4 Repubs. 4 Dems 4 Independents.

Sure, their knowledge was shallow but here is the important
point.

After sll the exploring and discussion.

Guilliani lead McCain 2ond with enthusiasm also pulled Indepents in
the group.

Hillary won over OBaama. This was their only choice--2 Dems.

Mind you, Peter Hart made a specific statement explaining all
Guilliani's negative issues. Those people stayed with him anyway.

Yes, this is very early---but I say this is not a good omen.

I am not being disloyal. I am saying we have to look at
situations honestly and find the ways to win.

2. alot of it depends on name recognition at this point and myth of the candidate
the msm does us a disservice in reporting the same strawmen and myths as facts. most do not know Rudy's positions or what he islike. or mccain or hillary. most don't know anything about obama.
The msm keeps repeating how hillary is so competent and experienced yet she has not come out with any policy.
obama has come out with several proposals yet they keep repeating the same strawman that he has no policy and is only retoric.
people only know rudy and mr 9-11. period. nothing about his marriages or his thinking.
mccain is still straight talk express and not known as a Bush clone.
if the msm would take their jobs seriously and start to present the facts about these guys and forgo myth and lies and tell the truth. then the results would be very different.
