BEDFORD, N.H. (AP) - Former North Carolina Senator John Edwards says New Hampshire voters can expect to see a lot more of him and his wife, Elizabeth, as he tries to gain ground on his two main rivals for the Democratic nomination -- Senators Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama.
Edwards started the day in Bedford, telling about 200 liberal activists at Democracy-Fest how he would help the middle class and end the war in Iraq. Former Alaska Senator Mike Gravel also was speaking at Democracy-Fest.
Edwards, the 2004 Democratic nominee for vice-president, touted his plan for universal health care. He challenged his rivals to debate their health care proposals, saying his is the only one that would require health coverage for all Americans.
He also urged the US Justice Department to investigate the big oil companies for possible price-gouging on gasoline.
