I'm somewhere in the middle. I read it while my daughter rides her bike outside, so I have to put it down from time to time.

It is awesome! :bounce:

8. I don't think he's getting in until September
and by the first of October, he will have the biggest war chest ever and an army of volunteers the likes of which has never and will never be seen again. And he will walk off with the nomination and he will win, no matter how many dirty tricks the Republics throw at us.

And it will be good. I'm saving my money and relaxing for the summer because come September I'm going to be busy and happily broke. We are going to kick ass and take names.

9. I hope you are right!
Al Gore is the best person for the job, in terms of his experience, knowledge, intelligence and judgement.

I think Al Gore is keeping his options open right now, watching how the "pre-season" goes. I don't think he yet knows what he will do. My guess is that the chance of him entering the race is somewhere around 35%.

Gore's current line - "I have no plans to be a candidate" - tells us that right now (today) he has no plans to run. But it doesn't prevent him from changing his plans and making new plans during the coming weeks or months.

Depending on how things pan out, and the reaction to his book, Gore can consider his situation over the summer and announce his decision (or if you prefer - "change his mind") sometime in the fall.

It all depends on the circumstances. In September, if the race for the Dem nomination is still wide open and Hillary's campaign is in trouble, it might create the conditions for Gore to enter the race.

Don't forget that Bill Clinton did not kick-off his campaign until October 1991. But Al Gore already has nationwide respect and name recognition that other wannabees can only wish for!

Unless and until Gore endorses another candidate, we have to assume that he is keeping his options open. So it is too soon for those of us who prefer Gore to switch our allegiance.

THE LAST TEMPTATION OF AL GORE
By Eric Pooley
TIME Magazine -- May 17, 2007

Let's say you were dreaming up the perfect stealth candidate for 2008, a Democrat who could step into the presidential race when the party confronts its inevitable doubts about the front runners. You would want a candidate with the grass-roots appeal of Barack Obama -- someone with a message that transcends politics, someone who spoke out loud and clear and early against the war in Iraq. But you would also want a candidate with the operational toughness of Hillary Clinton -- someone with experience and credibility on the world stage.
In other words, you would want someone like Al Gore -- the improbably charismatic, Academy Award-winning, Nobel Prize-nominated environmental prophet with an army of followers and huge reserves of political and cultural capital at his command.

16. Good idea (to save money over summer to give to Gore)
I am going to adopt your idea to save up some money. You'd better believe that I will work my fingers the bone to have Gore and Tipper in the White House! My husband will work, my children (17 & 22) will work... I will walk door to door and stand on the corner holding signs. Gore will have legions of volunteers and small donors. I hope he has already decided to publicly eschew most corporate donations except for makers of solar panels and windmill generators.

14. Well his number does seem to be eight.
Eight years as Congressman, eight years as Senator, eight years as Vice-President, eight years as professor, environmental Benjamin Franklin/Paul Revere/rock concert promoter hybrid, democratic media reform entrepreneur with Current Television, bestselling author, statesman, movie star, and national voice of conscious crying out against premeditated war, torture and the raping of our Constitution. So to be elected in 08 for what I believe will be eight years as President is logical, however nothing is guaranteed, we will have to bust our ass to make it happen.

P.S. I believe you will find "The Assault on Reason" exhilarating, enlightening, empowering and alarming.

Thanks for the thread Hawkeye

Gore is the only person I will vote for in this race.

If he doesn't run, or loses the primary, I will then be in the position of voting against someone.

none of the rest floats my boat.

al has it in spades, all the rest just seem like wannabes.

he has grown into the man of the season.

and, IF he jumps in, i think within a week he will have more $$ than any of the others. i imagine his first overnight haul will be a record breaker. and it will just continue to break records.

americans are thirsty, HUNGRY for a real leader.

i'm saving my dollars, too. i will give and give till it hurts. NO ONE else causes those feelings in me...

 AL!

19. If Al were not going to run and were certain of it, he would've announced that by now.
The fact that he hasn't means that the door is still open. Also - I can wait for him and be active at the same time, thanks. I've donated to Kucinich and Edwards and continue my efforts to get decent voting machines so that whoever gets the most votes will win the election.

Also, it is not correct to think that people who hang out at DU are active only on the internets...a majority of DU members are quite active in the real world.

22. because he sees the damage being done by the permanent
campaign which is simultaneously dragging the campaign season out to be pretty much never ending, and being sucked dry of any real actual public discourse.
i think he is going to run, and the only thing that would stop him is if he saw the other candidates putting their foot down about the ridiculous horse race mentality, and spouting of talking points that are pure bullshit.
read the book. it ends with the words- our choice is clear. i think his choice is clear, as well.

There's no rush for him to get involved in a campaign. In my opinion they've been cranking up this campaigning thing way too early.

39. Gore is running his own type of campaign and he will not
be put in locks and "run" by handlers. He is doing something quite groundbraking right now, he is running - his own race- without running - he is out of mainstream politics which is where I want my ideal candidate to be!

27. What gives me a modicum of hope is that in an interview I saw of Al
he said that the primary season is way too long. He seemed to have no interest in tying up that much unnecessary time running for office. I pray that he enters the race. He is the best hope for the world on so many fronts. No one else even comes close to stacking up to Al.

Too bad so many don't care about that. Live Earth is going to be spectacular and hopefully a wake ip call to us all on a global scale that we better get moving or we will lose this planet. I actually thought by the title of this op that it was going to include some substance about his life and the work he is now doing, but once again its the same old thing. Just political sound bites. His book becomes more true every day that goes by.
