Even in defeat the GOP still runs Congress.
Edited on Sat Jun-16-07 10:30 PM by blueinindiana

All I ever heard from the ‘Democrats’ in office was that they where the ‘Minority’ therefore they could not do anything to stop the passage of horrible right wing fascists bills.

Yet somehow the GOP seems to be able to stop almost every bill and even the ones that pass have to be rewritten to suit their needs.

I suggest Pelosi and Reid step down and let the GOP minority leaders officially take over.

Just like in the Presidential elections ... even if you win you still lose.

1. Maybe Reid should dust off that whole "nuclear option" business...
What's good for the GOP has got to be good for the Democrats.

11. I didn't like the idea
when the repubs were floating it and I like it even less if the dems decide to do it.

What they need to do is use a few more strong arm tactics. Don't capitulate, if they decide to filibuster, then you hold session after session after session on this one issue until something gives. You complain about the obstruction you face on a daily basis and you hold up all other business in congress until your demands are met.

Americans were behind them when they decided to pull us from Iraq. America will rally behind them if given a reason to.

3. If we had a democratic president....
Then we could make the changes we want...

But since Bush can use his Veto and even if we had full voting from all democratic members, we couldn't do much about it...

4. It is frustrating, no question.
Edited on Sat Jun-16-07 10:38 PM by Old and In the Way
But if Republicans and this administration wish to use their political capital to frustrate the agenda that a clear majority of Americans want, I think this a case of 'winning the battles, but losing the war'. I just hope that Americans are paying attention to the part of Congress that is stifling a progressive agenda.

But even if we can't our agenda fully realized, at least it is our agenda that is being debated....not the Republican's. I don't think we want to give up and turn the agenda back over to the criminal syndicate.

5. it was worse in the 50's when "southern democrats" always voted with the GOP - now it is
the institutionalization problem of a filibuster and a president that is GOP that stops progressive legislation.

And the solution to that is to do what the GOP did - win the Presidency and put through major legal changes via inclusion in the budget since that can not be filibustered.

7. I do wish the Dems were stronger and nastier, but in all fairness,
quite a few things have been passed in the House but stifled in the Senate where we hold a majority of ONE! And even that ONE is dubious because of Leiberman! The Majority really does need to be a bigger margin to force anything through.

8. Such a Crock. 36 investigations, 200+ hearings, numerous Bushie resignations, subpoenas
oversight hearings galore, minimum wage raised, .... and we are only just getting started. The Hatch Act violations net is just enormous. GET REAL!

9. It took the Republicans 30 years to put
their agenda in place,-- and they did a very good job of it-- don't fool yourself into thinking it can be undone with the snap of a finger.
A Democrat at 1600 Pennsylvania will make a big difference, but the way the system is set up, nothing hardly ever changes overnight.

15. We're either going to have to divide the country or outlaw the GOP
I can't see how reasonable people can arrive at any kind of consensus with these psychopaths.
