"Wish You Were Gore" song

(to the tune of the Pink Floyd song "Wish You Were Here")

Oh, why can't everyone tell
A statesman from a thug
Who's got our telephones bugged
A frat boy who took drugs
Who Lays down with thieves
The one who deceived
About the Dubya MDs

How did you get us to trade
Our heroes for shrubs
Democrats for Repubs
A stain we never could scrub
A living, breathing oil spill
How did we reject
Surplus safety net
For nine trillion in debt

How I wish
How I wish you were Gore
It's been two lost terms swimming in a cesspool
Of malfeasance and shame
Trashing all of the Bill of Rights
And starting losing fights
With pre-emptive war
Wish you were Gore

http://vastleft.blogspot.com/2006/06/wish-you-were-gore.html

I'm secure enough to admit it. I got a little teary-eyed while listening to this. We all know how much better the world be if President Gore was allowed to assume office, so I don't see a real need to list the reasons. How could this have happened? You know, if it weren't for President Gore heroically keeping his faith in democracy my own belief in the system would have been shaken. Bless you, President Gore!

3. The song was okay - using Al's voice at the end - I don't think so... (n/t)

7. Ignore my grouching. I just think the song is over the top. Al's good, not God. (n/t)

8. If he were God, I wouldn't vote for him! I doubt the song insinuates THAT.
I am not some quivering Al Gore fan. But like most here, I have a deep desire for restitution after the injustices started in 2000. it's this sentiment that fueled this song and you seem to ignore.

4. Reminds me the post 9.11 meme: "I am grateful it's W and not Gore in charge"
We know who wrote it, but it was recited by many democrats too - you know, the ones that get always interviewed - sometimes anonymously, sometimes not.

6. I learned this about VastLeft a long time ago: He's a GENIUS.
And, he uses his amazing talents for those things he most believes in. I admire him and what he does tremendously, and have told him so a few times, but never publicly, so here goes:

lwcon: You completely rock the house, my friend... totally and completely!!! You give me hope for the future, and pride in my own "left-wing-ness". Thank you.

10. Wow, that's incredibly nice of you to say...
... and thanks to draft_mario_cuomo for taking notice of the song and for all for the K&Rs! I'm really floored!

Still hopin' Al will get in the race, but there's still plenty of time, eh?

BTW, the ending clip was from a PSA Gore did about weather alerts, recorded when he was VP. It sure seemed to fit the current context, as well.

I'm now reading his book, which is amazing. He methodically makes an ironclad case about what's wrong with our media and the Bush administration, and as he builds up that foundation he seriously takes the gloves off in a way that's far removed from your average triangulating politician. For example, take this quote, from page 166:

"It is precisely our moral authority that has been recklessly put at risk by the cheap calculations of this willful president. He wagered with history and put America's goodwill and good name at risk. He lost, and because our nation was made a hostage to his moral compromises, we all lost."

Hey, the liberal light is always on at the Vast Left-Wing Conspiracy. Please stop by and say "hi!"

13. You certainly deserve all the praise - and we do agree - Gore would bring us
the restitution we need after the 2000 theft (the 2004 candidates didn't even acknowledge theirs publicly!)
