Could Tom Tunney beat Rahm Emanuel?
I happen to believe that Rahm Emanuel is a war-mongering, corporate ass kissing, DLC hatchet man. As such, I would love to see him face a strong progressive primary challenger in 2008.

My personal favorite to run against "Rahm the rammer" in the Democratic primary is Chicago Alderman Tom Tunney (http://www.44thward.org/).

The problem is that Mr. Tunney is not yet aware that his destiny is to unseat Emanuel and strike a blow for progressive Democracy.

Please do your own due diligence on Alderman Tunney (I've never met Tunney, but by all accounts he's a strong and genuine anti-war progressive). If you share my view that the Alderman should become the Congressman, then please contact him and let him know we need him:

Phone: (773) 525-6034
Fax: (773) 525-5058

Help defeat Rahm the rammer. Thanks all.

3. I'm no fan of DLC'ers either, but I think running true progressives against them is a bad idea.
We need to start replacing GOP goons, give the Dems a better majority. I know, I know. He's no Jan Schakowsky. I am disgusted by the DLC, but I just feel like there's too much at stake to spend resources targeting a safe Dem seat. Especially Rahm. Tunney or anyone else could fundraise for a year for a challenge, and Emmanuel would match it in one night.

My theory, we leave him alone, go up north to get rid of Kirk; It's better to change a red seat to blue, than it is attempt to dethrone the DLC prince.

4. I respect your point of view, but
I think the size of the majority is moot as long as it's incapable of enacting real change.

I think we need some house cleaning on our own side of the aisle. If not Rahm, then someone else of stature. These DLS Dems need a shot across the bow, IMHO.

He'll be incredibly well funded.

Complain all you want about his association with the DLC, "war mongering", huge ego (and taking credit for winning last November) - he's powerful and I've seen no reason to believe he's unpopular. Unseating a major politician in a party primary is very tough. Lieberman's loss was a rare event.
