The current administration must be removed and its policies reversed.
I believe that those who voted to give Bush permission to act in Iraq did not expect him to show contempt for the Geneva Convention and principals of international law. I believe they had not read the PNAC manifesto or were not aware that Bush fully intended to follow that plan for world domination through military might. To imagine a sitting President instigating such action in this day was unfathomable. The cruelty and determination of this administration was seen too late. And comprehended too slowly. Under cover of military conflict abroad, the Bushistas have systematically stripped the protections of law from the environment, undermined the Constitution, attacked the judicial system, put in place the mechanism to arrest and isolate anyone who opposes its policies, destabilized international relations on the planet, and cut services to veterans and others in need at home.

I believe we must get out of Iraq while we still can, before the battleground extends far beyond the borders of that country, and before the objective of our then unified opponents is focused on the theme of “U.S. out of the Middle East.” We are not making friends with our military presence; we are providing world terrorism logic beyond al Qaeda’s narrow definition of an evil west. The soldiers fighting us on that larger battleground will not need anyone to tell them we are evil. They will know us as an evil presence in their days. We must be strong and we must get out. And we must care for those women and men we sent there.

I believe the very essence of our democracy will be lost without strong, risk taking patriots successfully reversing the damage done by the current administration. This is no small thing. For us here on DU to scorn our representatives is easy. To be them, to survive and take this administration down peacefully and legally, is no small task. Nor is putting one’s self forth as a candidate. This is a time for heroic action. Looking back and criticizing actions of others is a luxury we do not have. We must overcome this looming nightmare. We must take the control we have over our dreams. We must not let the Bushistas transmorf into another administration that perpetuates the atrocities.

1. who would ever dream these people would destroy 200 years of our democracy
it is just too mind boggling for anyone to have imagined.
If a fiction writer thought up a story like the past 6 years, everyone would say it was just too far out. Who would ever believe a president would set out to destroy our constitution and liberties. Or that the congress would help him.
This is something that would be just too unbelievable say, 10 years ago.

4. I am sorry to be so frank and sound so rude ...
but the American people are now the problem and they are failing their own system, point blank.

We The People are sitting back waiting for something to happen and even living in the pipe dream of the next election with hopes that a change might be around the corner. It is NOT around the corner at all. It is not even a realistic fantasy at this point in time, if you have really been paying attention.

We The People better wake up, give up the farce of a dream we are still trying to live and nudge each other, give a jab, talk the talk and walk the walk until we see something really tangible happen. We can no longer pay our bills and live our lives and grow and prosper based on media hype and corporate television projections of what we should think and feel.

If we can't start to take this all on ourselves as a people and quit blaming, waiting, hoping, and resorting to "prayer" and wishful thinking, then it will continue JUST as it has and it WILL spell our demise. Can anyone say, "Third-World Banana Republic"?

We don't have much longer to be bemused and confused by the obvious smoke and mirrors machine that thrives on our comments, blame games, and pointing the finger.

Ask not at whom the finger points, it points at you. This should be the grassroots approach now and, at this stage in this long, futile game, it should not be hard to grasp it. When we see that we, the American people, by hook or by crook, are the problem, then we can all quickly wake up to see that we are the real and only solution. With that kind of insight, something might ACTUALLY happen. Without it, get used to more and more of the same. It it is only downhill on the this slippery slope without a solid, pervasive realization of the certain crux of the problem.

6. Of course!
Thats for bringing that up!

Unbeknownst to so many Americans who did not care to know about or take that date seriously, it may prove to be one that will live in infamy.

I amazes me how something so threatening and in-your-face like that could be enacted with barely a shrug or a whimper for people who believe and think that they now live in a free, democratic society with guaranteed, Constitutional freedoms that are still sacred and violated.

It is almost both sad and hilarious that people are coming here talking about candidates for new, system supporting election, while the very foundation of what they are voting upon has been pretty much decimated like the WTC. I mean, you are worried about voting for which candidate because of what while the whole underpinnings of the context of what you are doing that in has been wiped away by a petty tyrant and his lackeys? What?

So, for me, if there IS a next election, (the question is implied by the directives, of course) they will be somewhat of a joke as We The People fail to notice that the very basis and protections of our system that we once had the confidence, (at least) to vote in has already been dismantled by someone who has virtually declared himself Emperor!

Talk about total, Existential irony. Now, go back to this and that about Ms. Clinton and Obama, blah, blah. Who cares if the Constitution, habeus corpus, and the will of The People has been totally trashed. While it should make a tremendous difference, I guess the distractions of a void and null process are more enticing and exciting that the facts and the dire need to right the current, grave injustice that has been foisted upon us while we slept as a Nation.

11. That is not rude, MatrixEscape.
The American people allowed these people a second term.

I am reminded of a book written by Irmgard Hunt, ON HITLER's MounTAIN: Overcoming th Legacy oif a Nazi Childhood. This book explains for me how the German people allowed Hitler to do what he did. It is reminiscent of what is happening here, now.

We the People do need to wake up, remember our dream, and heroically stand for it.

9. My hair is on fire
Edited on Sun Jun-17-07 02:09 PM by libodem
and I can't put it out. I would like to herd all the Democratic cats, to a common ground, where all of our Democratic Candidates, give up the race, pool all the campaign money, into a hugh pool, and hire experts and legal teams to go after those fuckers in the White House, and MAKE THEM PAY. At the Hague...after, they are stripped of, all their money, it goes in to a widows/children fund and veterans medical/psychological fund. We all just get behind Al Gore/ Clark and elect them, with out spending every dime in the war chests, fighting each other. The end. Now, I'm going back to sleep and finish the dream. Oops, My pillows are smoldering. My bed's on fire.

10. Truth need not be rude and hair need not burn.
Stop griping and vote! Stop attacking and support the candidate you believe will do the best job. Cut out the sky is falling game and believe in and actualize your dream. Dreams are tools for us to visualize and then actualize the world we want. Sure, it is a process and will not happen quickly. So get going.
