Obama slingling mud at Bill Clinton before Fathers Day..

Obama Campaign Circulating Negative (And Ultimately False) Story About Bill Clinton

By Greg Sargent

We've just obtained an email that shows that the Obama campaign yesterday circulated a negative, and ultimately false, story about Bill Clinton -- that he allegedly made money giving a speech on September 11, 2006.

Campaigns, of course, circulate negative stuff about each other all the time. This email is unusual in that it is flagging something potentially negative not about a primary rival but about the former President -- one who obviously isn't running in the Democratic primary and who remains popular with Dem primary voters.

Indeed, the email is particularly noteworthy in that it reflects one of the curiosities of this race -- that one of the candidates' spouses is a popular former President, and thus is playing a highly visible role in the campaign, making him a target for anonymous attacks from Hillary's rivals.

The email, which was sent out by Jen Psaki of the Obama campaign and circulated to reporters (not us) on an off-the-record basis late yesterday, details some things that the Obama campaign found in Hillary's financial disclosure documents, which were released yesterday.

More after the jump.

Full Story..

...The Observer's Politicker blog thoroughly debunked the story, pointing out that Bill's schedule proved that he'd actually given the speech the night before, on Sept. 10.

http://nymag.com/daily/intel/2007/06/bill_and_hill_theyre_rich_and.html

Bill and Hillary Clinton — who famously didn't even own a home when they moved into the White House — now have assets someplace between $10 and $50 million, according to Senate financial-disclosure forms released today. Even better: Last year alone, Bill earned more than $10 million giving speeches. The report lists a whole bunch of talks given for hundreds of thousands of dollars a pop, including one of our favorites, a quick jaunt through Australia and New Zealand last year that netted a cool $750,000 for those three days away from Chappaqua. But here's the best one: The disclosure form lists a speech to a Hong Kong investment bank on September 11, 2006, the fifth anniversary of the attacks. The former-president's spokesman, Jay Carson, clarifies that the speech was actually a teleconference — which means it was only September 10 in New York, where Clinton was actually speaking. It also means Clinton earned $100,000 without even leaving the house. "The vast majority of speeches were given in person," Carson assures us. —Geoffrey Gray

And in the Clinton's own reporting, it was listed as Sept. 11th.

The speech was done on the 10th. All the evidence points to; if Obama's oppo team had done the research, found out that Bill taped the speech, they would have known he didn't give a speech on the 11th...and they wouldn't have mud in their eye now. Apparently, Hillary's signing was a landmine waiting to happen and they fell for it..haha..

If his campaign is making these rookie mistakes during a presidential bid because he's 20-22 pts behind in the polls..the incompetence is a wee bit too obvious. We're facing big problems needing resolution. Obama is showing us early on, he's not capable of running a First Class campaign for the highest office in the land nor does he take this responsibility seriously.

I would hope that if and when he plants his attacks on Edwards, the Edwards people will be just as relentless to expose Obama for the presumptuous Liar and false hope he's peddling to Americans. Obama is a neoconic shill. It's practically out in the open now and will be more apparent as time goes by.

The more his baseless smears attack Hillary, the more virulent her supporters will become to refute the lies and innuendo. Better get used to it, this is just the beginning..!

He said he wanted to avoid the "smallness of politics"...above is a sterling example of how soon he's gone back on his word..Spreading outright lies! If you spread a lie like that wouldn't your conscience say a sincere apology is in order?

If you really don't remember here is an article from Feb/07..

As anyone not living in a cave surely knows, Obama launched his campaign for president last weekend by deriding the "smallness of our politics" and promising to change the tone of political discourse in America. But with Hillary Clinton leading Obama by an average of nearly 20 points in the six major polls taken so far this year, will Obama be able to close the gap over the coming year without playing hardball? And how can he attack Clinton without looking small himself and undermining the core rationale for his candidacy?"

more here.

Seems like I can't log on to DU anymore without reading an anti Obama post by a Clinton fan.

Besides the point that the Clinton's are pure as the driven snow let's not all forget one very important point.

If William Jefferson Clinton had not gone on national TV and LIED to us, to our faces, George W. Bush would be sitting in Texas probably selling used cars.

Clinton's excesses turned a shoo in Gore succession, into enough of a horse race that Bushco was able to steal an election and for what? So he could get his knob shined by a girl young enough to be his daughter?

And now what do we see here on this most progressive of boards, a daily assault by the corporatist Clintons on Barack Obama seeking to paint him as being as politicaly slimey and driven as Hil and Bill are.

Well good luck with that.

39. Thanks.
But the original is not working fine. It's working for you, because the original page is in your cache. If you mouse over your link in the OP, you'll see it ends with "obama_campaign_circulating_negative_story_about_bill_clin"

This link you just sent ends with "obama_campaign_circulating_negative_story_about_bill_clinton"

That "on" is kinda important. :)

Obama is falling to 20-22 pts behind Hillary in the polls.

He doesn't have the goods to deliver, never did and the reason he's so slow getting out his positions on important issues.. Same thing with his Senate race. He was 20pts behind 3 wks before the election until his oppo team used the smears on them! His run was against 2 candidates destroyed by his oppo team who's numbers were virtually nil before election day... He got himself a free ride...wonder why?

It's coming out now about the smears used against his Primary and GE opponents for getting him elected to the Senate.

From the same team he's using now.

on edit...First thing Obama did after starting the Ethics Commission is this:

"To avoid manipulation of the commission for political purposes, any person filing a complaint that they knew to be false would be subject to a fine and/or imprisonment. No complaints could be filed against a member of Congress for 30 days before a primary election and 60 days before a general election."

http://obama.senate.gov/issues/ethics_and_lobbying_reform/

nice, after wiping out two of his opponents before the Senatorial election. He invents an "Ethic's Commission" with Rules stating a caveat, "you're not allowed to do what I did before my (election) race, to my opponents."!

83. Wait you're saying he had to use a smear team to beat Alan Keyes in the General Election?
I think Alan Keyes just opening his mouth helped Obama more than any smear team could.

86. Not really...
Obama has never won a race on his own steam, and the way he's dropping in the polls, I don't have to wonder why..His team smeared both the Primary candidate and the GE candidate..just before election day.. nice...really, hamhanded, juvenile stuff..kroike!

45. Why should September 11 be a sacred day?
Next thing you know everyone will be required to bow down and pray towards the WTC 6 times a day.

If there is a problem with making money giving a speech on September 11 then it should apply to everyone. There should also be a problem with ANYONE working on September 11.

71. I do believe a staffer did, but not Obama personally
Obama has been busy fundraising and doing speeches the past couple days to know about all the oppossition research his staffers are doing.

Are you also saying that oppossition research is not done by Hillary and Co.? It is a part of politics, it is another thing if you use it in a malicous way.

Obama never used anything in the memos to personally attack Hillary or Bill.

82. Of course not him personally...
But Of course Obama gave the order to release the memo. The staffer's name was on it. If he didn't give the order, the staffer would have been fired for cause and there would have been a press release just as there was for the Edwards flap, over the telemarketer early on after he announced he was running.

The attack was directed at Bill, meant to embarrass him. Didn't you read the OP? Funny how things turn out though..when the expected intent, blows up in his face. (now we 're just supposed to forgetaboutit) boo-hoo, for Bama!

I'm sure Hillary has oppo researchers on the payroll...If they were as incompetent as 'Obama's Gang that Can't Shoot Straight'... they'd be gone in a heartbeat and an apology issued to the intended victim.

All I can say is, daily, Obama and his team seem like they haven't got a clue. The Right hand doesn't know what the Left hand is doing..Obama's becoming an embarrassment to the Democratic Party. But...as you all think, experience doesn't matter..

And I will vote for whoever the nominee is...

60. I don't hate dirty politics.
And I never believed that anyone would try and avoid them, no matter what they said. Maybe that makes me a jaded cynic. What I do hate is sloppy politics. And this story, as well as the one about the adivser who came out for a Libby pardon, is sloppy politics. America likes people who play dirty, they just want them to play dirty smart, and win.

FWIW, I took Obama's "smallness of politics" remark to mean the divisive wedge-issues that the GOP have used to convince Americans to vote against their own best interests.

Disclaimer: This reply is not meant as an endorsement for any particular candidate. I will vote for the Democrat over the Republican, no matter who it is.

And you are calling Obama a hypocrite?

Clinton and Edwards folks are doing their best to tag Obama with labels they have earned themselves. This has been more than evident over the past week on DU.

84. You link doesn't work
any more than your outrageous smears work to help your candidate. Even if Hillary were persuasive enough to make me want to support her, I'd rather swallow nails than join ranks with such despicably hateful people as a few of her supporters on DU.

WTF does Father's Day have to do with anything, particularly given Bill's reputation as such an upstanding, committed family man? :eyes:
