ALL democrats beat the GOP in recent Newsweek poll.
"Coming just one day after the last NEWSWEEK Poll found President George W. Bush plagued by the worst presidential approval ratings since Richard Nixon, the new poll finds that every leading Republican candidate for the presidency in 2008 would lose to each of the leading Democrats. Hillary Clinton would defeat Rudy Giuliani by 7 points among registered voters: 51 percent to 44 percent. Giuliani comes up short against Obama (49 to 44) and Edwards (48 to 46)."

Interesting. Hillary and Obama have a much larger lead than Edwards.

1. Just too early. Polls of this sort are meaningless at this point.
I do buy the Bush popularity results, but that's a totally different kind of circumstance. Everyone is familiar with Bush, while lots of people know very little about the candidates, or are even misinformed about them.

2. Yes, it is early.
I fully expect someone other than the top 3 to be the final nominee. It is interesting, however, that the GOP is doing so poorly...that could be an omen for the future.

4. No decent Republican is going to run.
The best chance the young Republicans have is to let the slimebuckets heading their ticket lose big. Get those greedy morons out of power. In four years, eight years, when their hair has that touch of trustworthy gray, come roaring back as the New Shiny Better Than Ever Republican Party. Untouched by the Bush curse.

So don't be surprised if the Republicans aren't interested in voting for these turnips. Power won't change hands if these creeps stay in charge, and young ambitious men are always interested in power changing hands.

3. I think it at least evident Hillary would be a formidable foe to any repuke.
I hear so much talk about her negatives, the repukes aren't riding on a wave of approval either - tie them to bush in the general and we win with a known candidate, even Hillary.

We love our firefighters and they hate his guts.

7. The margin of error is 7 points, so HRC's 7 point lead is essentially meaningless
If folks actually look at the poll, it has the national numbers followed by "red state" and "blue state" numbers pulled out. But... it doesn't state which states are "blue" and which "red". (One assumes it's the 2004 electoral college).

In the red state results, the Dems do not break 50% - - some of the "red state" sub sets are won by the GOPer - - and most of the results are within a point or two.
