This was buried in an article.

==A recent USA Today/Gallup poll found a shocking result - that only 72 percent said they would vote for a qualified Mormon nominee. The number was 88 percent for a woman and 94 percent for a black.==

It is sad 100% of people don't vote on merit but it seems Romney is by far the weakest general election candidate among the repukes top-tier.

1. I'm skeptical of the 94% black.
This poll couldn't have included the deep south states. Racism is alive and well in rural Alabama, Louisiana and South Carolina.

9. Believe me racism is a alive in many regions besides the deep South.

"Mormonism" (anti-Mormon sentiment) seems to be pretty prevalent everywhere. I guess anti-Catholicism was prevalent in an earlier era as well. ;)

Edited to add comment about "Mormonism". (If "racism" means ill will towards another race, perhaps "Mormonism" can mean ill will towards Mormons.

done by the Mormon Church. "SwiftMagicUnderwear Vets for Truth" anyone?

3. Yep.
Pictures of the evolution of the sacred garments on the evening news.

That will increase ratings so much more than talking about policy.

6. I have a friend who wouldn't vote for a Mormon, and she voted for Bush.
She votes Democratic more these days, but she would NEVER vote for a Mormon. She has relatives in the church and despises it.

10. Same here. Fundies won't go for a Mormon
Bet on it. The GOP is a niche party. They rely heavily on the fundies to get them over the top. And fundies, by and large, are not going to support a Mormon the same as they would a regular rich white guy. For GW Bush, the fundies treated politics like a revival - carpooling and organizing from the pulpit as well as any labor union could. And still in 2004 it was just barely enough.

Ain't gonna happen for a Mormon.

7. Dear Lord
Please help the GOP nominate that phony.

John McCain is the GOP's most dangerous contender. BUt his precious war is going so badly that the nomination for him seems less likely every day.

8. I'd consider voting for a candidate who happens to be Mormon
But not if his name is Mitt Romney.
