Old girlfriends cast their vote for Thompson
Times Online ^ | June 24, 2007 | Sarah Baxter

Posted on 06/23/2007 4:20:32 PM PDT by Politicalmom

IN the battle for the women’s vote, Fred Thompson has a secret weapon against Hillary Clinton - the legions of former girlfriends who still adore him and who want him to be president.

The Hollywood actor and former Tennessee senator racked up an impressive list of conquests during his swinging bachelor days in the 1990s, but he appears to have achieved the impossible and kept their friendship and respect.

Lorrie Morgan, a country singer who dated Thompson and considered marrying him in the mid1990s, told The Sunday Times: “I couldn’t think of a bad word to say about Fred if somebody put a gun to my head.

“Fred is a perfect example of chivalry. He’s the kind of man little girls dream about marrying, who opens doors for you, lights your cigarettes, helps you on with your coat, buys wonderful gifts. It’s every woman’s fantasy.”Thompson, who wooed Baroness Thatcher during a visit to London last week, is expected to announce officially next month that he is running for president. He is already challenging Rudy Giuliani, the former mayor of New York, for first place in polls of likely Republican voters.

Morgan remembers encouraging Thompson to run for president when they were together. “I think he has a great chance of capturing the women’s vote. He’s majestic. He’s a soft, safe place to be and that could be Fred’s ticket. Women love a soft place to lay and a strong pair of hands to hold us,” she said.

Georgette Mosbacher, a leading Republican fundraiser who dated Thompson after Morgan and remains a good friend, said he would defeat Clinton because of his appeal to “traditional women who will like the Southern gentleman in him”.

1. He'd have a greater chance of capturing the women's vote
if he supported choice and universal health care. He's this woman's nightmare.

26. They are deleting posts and members over that thread...
I imagine this guy's days are numbered as a proud member also:

To: All

Here's why this matters.
There is hard core group of FReeper bigots who delight to bash Romney for being the member of an "evil non-Christian cult." The man has an impeccable, blameless personal life, informed by his "evil cultish religion," and has been a model of fidelity, honor, and decency as a husband and a father that would put a lot of his devout Christian critics to shame.

They come over to roil around in the irrelevant stink of polygamy and pontificate about their own secure status as Christ's own elect.

Then there's Fred, "The Tennessee Stud," wedder of two and bedder of dozens. His supporters revel in the nickname. They guffaw and wink at each other as they leer at his young-as-his-daughter wife and make every excuse under the sun for him. Why? Because the good ol'boy he looks and sounds like a Southern Christian gentleman.

The hypocrisy here is so thick and heavy you couldn't dislodge it with a nuclear weapon.

9. Awesome, thanks.
I can tolerate "to read stupid freeper comments about the article, click here." It's just nice not to force everyone to their site if you don't have to.

Sometimes I do a third party link, but only if I have ulterior motives in sending people to a particular blog. :)

3. What a bunch of hogwash.
"Women love a soft place to lay and a strong pair of hands to hold us,” she said.

I certainly hope most women have enough sense to know the vote would be for President, not Teddy Bear.

Try to imagine for just a second just a second that any paper anywhere would post such an article about a Democrat. This article would be much, much different if it were about a Democrat. Instead of happy, pretty, ex girl friends we would hear about sluts and and hos. The man is totally unqualified to be President and a lobbiest, phony populist to boot. Let me vomit now.

21. Women will RUN from voting for Thompson.....
For starters, there's the trophy wife--not a popular phenomenon with any women, conservative or liberal. Then there are all the other reasons conservative white men are not popular with women voters.

23. "Women love a soft place to lay and a strong pair of hands to hold us,”
I'm a guy, but I'm even offended by that. Those poor fragile women get confused easily, and just need to have a soft place to lay and let the man take care of everything. Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.

This wouldn't even be said during the fifties, would it? I can't imagine Lucy saying something like that. Even though she did get spanked in one episode.

I'm picturing a living barbie doll, with a mentality to match.

Is it bad for me to say this?

24. Nobody listens to me...
I have been saying this for 6 months now and get laughed at every time it comes up...

Be VERY very concerned about Thompson, because he WILL be the nominee for the pugs.

Just because some on this forum do not understand his persona and his broad appeal does not mean that many millions across this country will not. I have NEVER seen anyone remain friends with all his ex's to the point that they actively stump for him. That little nugget is an insight into what he is capable of on the stump

I live here and I know and I have seen him in action in Tennessee. I have been warning everyone on here for months. He will be the one to beat come november and unless Gore steps in to claim the Democratic nomination, get ready for "President Thompson".

Obama and Hillary can pack it in if they are all we have to offer.

For all that cannot see what I am saying and think I am trolling, please apologize to me in November 08....

If that is the case, you have fallen once again to a lack of understanding of the American voter.

I think a lot of people are concerned because we know the depths to which the electorate can go--they elected Bush, eh? We also know how effective slime machines can be.

But that does not mean we approve of Thompson and that is what I think you see expressed here.

Further, you'd better believe that he, like everyone else, has at least some ex's who don't think he's all that. There just is absolutely nothing in it for them to make negative comments about him to the media. What do they gain by doing that? Only those who say nice things might stand to gain.

25. GrandMas have other concerns.
His very first speech in California when he began to seriously
think about running---He played his hand.

In his folksy way , he gave a speech in which he calls for
sacrifice. (We will all acknowledge this country is in trouble)

This is not eactly word for word but very close.
"I am sure Grandma will be willing to give up some of
her SS to help out her Grandchildren." in that syrupy sweet
folksy way.

Interesting post--Now I know what Susan Estrich was referencing
when she called Thompson, the Serial Dater.
