With Democratic friends like these, who needs enemies?

Tomorrow afternoon, the New Hampshire House will be voting on whether to pass Senate Bill 106. SB 106 would seriously weaken existing ethics laws, and would roll back reforms that have been on the books for less than a year. This noxious little bill would:

* Repeal the requirement that lobbyists file a list of political donations with their lobbyist activity reports.

* Reduce the frequency of lobbyist activity reports from monthly to quarterly

* Exempt activities influencing state administrative agencies from the scope of the lobbying statutes

* Repeal the prohibition on granting "honorarium" to elected officials

Keep in mind, this bill is sponsored by a Democratic state senator and is championed in the House by a Democratic committee chairman.

Last November, NH went blue for the first time in almost a century. A major part of this change was the climate of corruption in both Washington and in Concord. Now, some Democrats are so in hock to the special interests that they are trying to slam this disgraceful bill through the legislature at a time when they figure nobody is watching.

Well, somebody is watching. This morning, a bipartisan group of legislators was joined by Granny D and leaders of Democracy for New Hampshire at a press conference to blow the whistle on this bill. Hopefully, a bit of sunshine will be a good disinfectant and will kill this thing before it can do any damage.
