The markets are. The political markets.

Political insiders have long known that if you really want to know what's going on in a campaign, you can't just look at the opinion polls.

You have to talk to the bookies. Get the odds.

And this time around, they're telling a story.

Political bookmakers report a surge in betting on Hillary Clinton to secure the Democratic nomination and to go on to win the November 2008 presidential election.

Barack Obama's support has faded dramatically since early spring, they say.

3. I frankly like her but for this. I am sick of the same old people
I wish she was not sort of the Bush Clinton group that we have had for so long. I just want new blood but I would vote for her. Would any one think she would do a thing with NAFTA? I waited 8 years for Clinton to do something on that. Course with the GOP in love with business and thinking they do every thing right it is hard to get rid of NAFTA.

9. Senator Clinton says that outsourcing "is just a reality" we face
As for Clinton changing or revisiting NAFTA, apparently all the experience she lapped up while being First Lady would include having her hubby sign the NAFTA agreement. Now that's experience!

17. It is not that I hate trading but it could have been done better
I wanted it fixed so it saved jobs and not give tax brakes to move out of the country. I have alway thought that we should be able to buy things from any place. I can recall the large duty we had to pay on things from Canada as a child. Much of my clothing came from England via Canada. My watch was even a Swiss watch as a child via Canada. I can recall my mother buying wonderful, cotton from Egypt, which was as fine as silk, in Canada that you could not get here but you still had to pay duty on it. Nafta was just done badly for USA for some reason.

10. HRC on NAFTA

She did vote against CAFTA, so I think she would push for changes to NAFTA if elected. As for getting rid of it, that's not going to happen - there's no consensus for it.

19. Oh I think trade world wide is here to stay it just should had been
better for the USA. I know we can not go into other countries and re-do their laws (has worked bad in Vietnam and Iraq so far) but I think we had power to make them change if they traded with us. Look at the food coming in from other countries. I do think our laws should make them sell goods as safe as ours WERE before Bush and Co, sold it out. I think Clinton helped sell it out sighing Nafta as it was. Sougus from Mass. was my man and I am sure he went into this. I am not sure of the sp. of his name but he died pretty young. It is a little odd that people will seem to take 'Corp. will always do the right thing' over govt. 'does things wrong'. It seems the trend is toward corp. but I think it will swing back as it usually does. People will get sick of wondering about their tooth paste or if they are killing off the family pet I guess.

20. Plus I think that other countries have all started this----
into the courts to get things they want for their countries corp.. We do not hear of these much but I have read of a few and it would be nice to see a list of just what countries are in courts in the USA to push what they want under Nafta. Any one read about them? You will not hear of them on Fox of CNN I am sure. It seems to me I recall Poland Springs pumping out millions of gal. of ground water and the local people really up tight as their wells went dry. Not done when it was a Am. corp but now it is a Fr. corp. that owns it. It is like the woods of Maine used to be owned by Am. but I believe much is owned by EU corp. now. It seems to me only time before they will be cut off for their profits and I am sure Maine people will not have a say in it. And I can bet the corp. will be in court if they are slowed down saying Nafta lets them do this. Don't we already have a super highway being built from the South to the North, with un-checked trucks and drivers taking over? Talk abnout keeping the the country safe.

6.  Obama, who was level with Clinton at around 42% as recently as April, has faded to about 3%.
Wonder if they will be drawing odds for when Obama will drop out?

8. Awright!!!!!
Let's just cancel the election, shall we? I mean, why bother? It cuts into the vital Paris Hilton news coverage, distracts me from some of my favorite shows, and fills up my mailbox with junk mail.

Only 29 percent think early presidential campaign polls are utterly shallow and pointless.

14. No, that's not it either. Maybe something like this:
So not only is she in favor of offshoring jobs, apparently she's in favor of offshore betting!

Or

With Clinton, it's always about the money.

or

Can it be much longer before Bill Bennett signs up with the campaign?

15. Sorry I can't bet it...
I lost half my money when the early line in the fall of '03 said Dean was going to win the Democratic primary in '04 and the other half when the oddsmakers said Ned Lamont was going to win the CT Senate race after winning the Dem nomination.

Edited on Wed Jun-27-07 01:53 PM by depakid
Hillary will never be president- and one could make some easy money with such a bet.

As the article says: now would be the opportune moment to go "short," hedge fund style, and bet against her.

18. I don't bet
I don't go to casinos and I don't bet on horse races,
whether it's the four-legged variety or the two-legged
variety.

Unless the whole primary process and the election have
just been cancelled, I don't appear to be the only one
to feel that way, either.........
