1. Appears isolate to Upper East Side

A power outage in the city's Upper East Side neighborhood cut traffic lights and some subway service Wednesday. The extent of the power loss was not immediately clear.

"There's something happening on the Upper East Side. I can't tell you how big it is yet," said Bob Magee, a spokesman for Consolidated Edison.

Residents said traffic lights were out for 20 blocks on Lexington Avenue and the East Side subway lines were not operating.

Consolidated Edison could not say how many customers had lost power. The city was in the second day of temperatures well above 90 degrees.

2. Everyone needs to turn off a few appliances! It's HOT out there!
I have a nicely appointed basement that is as cool as a cucumber, which saves a fortune on cooling bills. It's the most comfortable area in the house, winter or summer--coolest in the summer, warmest in the winter.

5. Boy, does that headline bring back some memories. I think it was
in the '80's, same thing. I'm working on West 57th and need to get down to Penn to get on a train for the Jersey Shore. What a night!! I'm now in Florida with air conditioning and my heart goes out to all standing around in the heat just waiting. Let's see how Bloomberg handles this....
