Poll question: Are the RW Cons actually turning against corporatism / globalism?
Edited on Wed Jun-27-07 04:52 PM by RadiDem

I read and 'troll' several right-wing boards.

In the past, these RW Sheepie have slavishly, unabashedly defended oil company's obscene profits, corporations outsourcing in the name of profits, CEO's making 400 Million dollars, advocated the abolishment of Minimum Wage, unions, OSHA, the FDA, EPA etc etc.

With the immigration bill though, I am definitely seeing MANY more posts talking about corporatism, outsourcing, the 'war on the middle class' and American jobs, even calling bushco and pals 'ruling elites'

Question - is this a genuine awakening of the Sheepie, or is it all a foil to cover their anti Latino-immigrant racism? I'm really not sure. If they ARE waking up (with people like Lou Dobbs educating them) the 'elites' have much to fear.

What do you think?

1. A little bit of both....b/c they are beginning to see how it all will affect 'them'
There's no real 'love for the other guy'....it's still all about them.

11. Sure, b/c the uber-rich could afford the high gas prices and the rising pricing of
groceries, etc.

The regular people can't afford it ~ at a certain point ~ the weaker members are gonna 'fall' before the 'better positioned' fall, but they're (we're all) gonna fall sooner or later....the rich are only 'better positioned' (they THINK).

10. They're fractured....
There's a schism running through the Republican party as we speak, there have always been more paleos and libertarian types than you'd think voting R, and they're just as pissed at the neocons as any Dem, probably more. Now as (some)Neo-Cons and DBWs are waking up to how badly W screwed everybody over there's something of a civil war going on.

There's always been a faction in the party that was anti-corporatism. It was Mussolini who said fascism was more properly called corporatism. The RLC is vehemently anti-fascist and anti-neocon. Ron Paul called what's been going on with Haliburton "evil".

The immigration thing is complicated, very few people are motivated by outright racism, culturalism is probably more accurate. Mostly I think they're motivated by concerns about the burdens illegals place on government services and security issues.

I oppose the immigration bill myself because in a world where most people live on 10% of what Americans make if you offer legal status to anyone who makes it here without controlling the situation and without placing limits on the services they qualify for we'll end up swamped and I think the population of this nation is high enough, for environmental reasons if nothing else.

5. No Way They're just providing political cover
The Junior Bush admin has exposed the interest of those that hold the real power. They just made a decision to slink into the shadows for a few years until the masses forget about the damage done trying to reach their goals. True democracy requires eternal vigilance and they will never cede power unless we take it from them. Even in bad times they do well, they can stand a few lean years better than we can.

6. They're Americans just like you and me, and they're being hit just like you and me
Many of them experience the same adverse effects of the Clinton-Bush globalized credit economy that we face. Now they're feeling the effects and waking up to it. Can they be lulled into sleep again? Yes, especially if they are going to nominate a Globalist like Thompson who masquerades as a populist.

7. Neocons are traitors, not Americans
Edited on Wed Jun-27-07 05:17 PM by RadiDem
Witness their hatred of providing social services for poor and disenfranchised Americans (especially after Katrina) but their defense of spending BILLIONS of American tax dollars (and American lives) for the Iraqis.

8. They're not the neocon leaders
They're the sheep and they're misled by the propaganda. They're merely useful idiots. In a sense, we were used similarly when Clinton passed NAFTA.

9. To say they're just doing this because they're anti-immigrant or anti-Mexican is wrong
It's probably a little bit of both. I was surprised as hell to see Ann Coulter talk about corporatism on Hardball yesterday because it's not a topic right-wingers general care too much about.

12. Heh.....I personally know of one CEO who gets AT LEAST an EXTRA $300,000/per year
b/c of the shrub's tax cuts......and that's only b/c of publicly available information.

You know, if people want to WIN this, dig into the freakin'g NUMBERS (even the publicly available ones)....and see how MUCH the rich are winning & winning & winning again over us STUPID proles who won't bother to get outraged about the MATH!.

Do the math! And present it for those of us who aren't so good with math....perhaps we're the artsy/english types (that'd be me).....but I'll LISTEN, I'll make EVERY G-d d*mned attempt to understand!

13. I hate to change the subject here but
high gas prices are our fault, same with outsourcing. Why? Our society is so addicted to convenience and cheap prices. If we stopped buying our "stuff" made from out of the US and if we stopped our reckless driving habits we would not be in this boat. We do have options like riding your bike to work or taking public transportation or buying only products made in the US, but people prefer extremely low prices so they dig there own grave. Consumers have the ultimate power. Nobody buys a companies product that company goes out of business.

14. Some of what you say may have some merit, but
"What public transporation"? We virtually have NONE, compared to other 'western' countries. The Oil companies wouldn't allow it! Riding a bike around 'works' for a younger person who lives & works close-by, but it doesn't 'work' for an elderly or infirmed person....or someone who lives way the h*ll out on a subdivision that was built on a former cornfield that's 60 miles away from where 'said person' works! (and they live 60 miles away b/c that's the only housing that they can afford at the low salary that they are making).
