Air War

Yesterday, once again, Obama threw a punch which landed him on the canvass. More self inflicted blows followed.

Is this any way to run a campaign?

The day started filled with audacity, but not hope. Obama, who strutted his 6 foot frame at the 2004 Democratic convention fantasizing himself to be basketball player Lebron James “with game, baby,” was defending his Chicago turf with steroid bluster. Obama decided to speak with the Chicago press, finally, to denigrate Hillary Clinton’s qualifications to be president. “The only person who would probably be prepared to be our president on Day 1 would be Bill Clinton — not Hillary Clinton,” said the newly minted Lazio Lebron.

The macho bluster blew away with a Freudian slip reminiscent of Banquo’s unannounced visit to Macbeth: “I’m sure the Clintons can raise much more money than us,” Obama said. “She was president…”

“She was president…” is the reason why Obama decided to launch his air war yesterday.

1. Obama is giving me more and more reasons not to support him
There is no doubt that Hillary is ready to be President on January 20, 2009. She has a lifetime of service to this country. And most importantly, she knows the issues at hand.

Does she have my vote yet in the primary? I don't know who I'm supporting yet.

But to somehow say that Hillary isn't ready to assume the office of the presidency, is downright dumb on Obama's part. It's just not factually correct.

Hillary may have a lifetime of service to this country, but both Dodd and Biden have more, as well as Kucinich.
If lots of experience is what you are looking for then you can do better than the Hill.

Edited on Thu Jun-28-07 01:18 PM by calimary
is what's killed it for me.

No interest in IMPEACHMENT??? They haven't seen enough crimes???? It would take too long?????

FUCK THAT.

And guess what I'm going to write on that snail-mail appeal for campaign donations when I send it back to the Obama campaign - empty? I promise I'll be polite, however.

BTW - Dodd has told some of his constituents the same thing. He's out now, too, as far as I'm concerned.

This is really sad. I had a lot of hope for Obama. He had my vote barring a Gore candidacy.

135. Pardon my smugness, But I must agree with you.
People need to learn that directing their anger and bitter frustrations at people such as Hilary Clinton does nothing but divert attention from the real villans. I can think of about 647 reasons why practically every Republican in power should be incarcerated at this point in time. So I should attack Senator Clinton?

138. "Fair game"?
I haven't been attacking Obama for months. Many people have not been attacking Obama for months. He's responsible for what he says and does. Well, if you consider not praising Obama for every word he speaks and every campaign appearance as an attack, then just about everyone but the main stream media horse race creating ratings sloggers are "not guilty". Do you have any actual examples of Senator Clinton's supporters "attacking" Obama?

7. Speaking of windsocks
==Obama could be as calculating as they come. He promoted himself as a defender of abortion rights, but he encouraged fellow Democrats to vote "present" on abortion bills. Friends say the strategy was designed to protect lawmakers, including Obama, with designs on higher offices.

Still, he once voted against requiring medical care for aborted fetuses who survive.==

I am sure voting against medical care for fetuses who survive an abortion (otherwise known as newborn babies) will be a great selling point for Obama in the general election.

Edited on Thu Jun-28-07 12:49 AM by draft_mario_cuomo
The Official Story also holds that HRC, Edwards, Dodd, Biden, Kerry, and others voted for the IWR because of political reasons. No evidence is offered to support this claim. Yet, we have Obama's own friends saying he changed his vote for political gain (if he did it on this, what else would he be willing to sacrifice for political gain in the future, especially given his obsession with working with right-wingers under the clever guise of "unity"?) and they continue to tar the other candidates as unprincipled wind socks and portray their man as a rare bastion of political courage!

19. Obama himself made that comment
=="I'm LeBron, baby. I can play on this level. I got some game."

-- Sen. Barack Obama, quoted in the new book Obama: From Promise to Power by David Mendell, likening himself as NBA star LeBron James as he walked around the 2004 Democratic National Convention in Boston.==

It had nothing to do with color but rather the fact that both were up-and-coming stars in their respective fields with unlimited potential.

After all, why should it be disputed? It does show him to be arrogant but anyone who wants to be the most powerful person on the planet is arrogant to a substantial degree.

His own book was self-serving and in preparation of a future presidential run. Why would he include something that made him sound arrogant in it?

What evidence is there linking this site to HRC anyway? That seems to be another unsubstantiated "smear" from the Obama camp.

I support HIM, not "him". Resistance is futile. There are only two candidates in the race. All others should quit, like they did in 2003 as Holy Joe and Howard Dean battled it out for the nomination. After the second quarter fundraising numbers come out it will be clear that there is only one choice. He earned the right and will purchase victory. I don't know why those others losers even have the audacity of hope to challenge HIM for what is rightfully HIS.

This is ironic...

What exactly is racist about the OP?

A presidential campaign should be held to a higher standard than an obscure website., right?

The "even for you" statement is lame. Tellurian is an important contributor to DU and presents some needed dissenting opinions that are rare at DU. We are, at least in the days of the "old politics", the party of the big tent. Tellurian is as welcome in the tent as anyone.

139. Yep..it'll be a repeat of Kerry in 2004.
And sad thing is..even less people will be united behind Hillary, for good reasons too.

I won't even vote in the election. Nope. I'm doubtful I'll even vote for Obama. Probably not. So I'll just sit it out. And before you bullshit me about how dare you, your one vote could cost the election, no it won't, there'd be so many goddamn recounts if the election was between one vote in a presidential election. And it's decided by the electoral college anyway, or the Supreme Court. And there are many people who sit out who don't even have the ability to vote or aren't registered to vote, so I won't feel so guilty.

I don't want someone to vote against, I want someone to vote for, that's why I'm voting for John Edwards or Al Gore or even Gen. Wes Clark if he gets in.

June 27, 2007 Qunnipiac -

Florida, Ohio, Pennsylvania state polls:

Florida: Clinton 38%, Obama 15%, Edwards 8%, Gore 13%;

Ohio: Clinton 40%, Obama 12%, Edwards 12%, Gore 12%;

Pennsylvania: Clinton 32%, Obama 18%, Gore 16%, Edwards 7%

Without Gore:

Florida: Clinton 43%, Obama 16%, Edwards 11%;

Ohio: Clinton 46%, Obama 14%, Edwards 15%;

Pennsylvania: Clinton 38%, Obama 22%, Edwards 10%.

"Sen. Clinton's numbers are as reliable as a Swiss watch. Her support and lead remain rock solid among the Democrats in these key states."

I really don't feel all that confident about this particular website. Its goal seems to be to knock out the two top contenders. Is it proven to be a Hillary campaign website? Or a Republican disinfo job?

Read the whole article and quit smearing Obama. Are you saying Hillary has NEVER misspoken???

I really had no idea that Dems like you exist out there. I guess there really isn't much differences btwn some Repubs and some 'Dems'

Obama slip: 'She was president'
Obama downplayed the disparity between the events, saying he held a funder in New York just last week.
"If you tally what we've done in New York and what they've done in Chicago, I think we come out pretty well," he said.

All presidential hopefuls are scrambling to raise cash before Saturday, the deadline for money to be reported on reports due in July. A strong showing intimidates rivals and helps bring in more cash.

Ironically, Obama's tongue slipped when he tried to lower expectations.

"I'm sure the Clintons can raise much more money than us," Obama told reporters. "She was president -- or he was president -- for eight years. She was the first lady. They've got a lot of chits out there. We're just trying to make sure that we can raise the paltry sums that allow us to compete."

Why not highlight what's affirming in his campaign -- and there's a hell of a lot of it -- and leave the smear crap to FOX News?

Senator Obama's cash raised totals are going to make a headline or two. There's a lot of folks who think he's strictly top-drawer. If he's our nominee, he's got my enthusiastic vote.

Truth goes with the territory...People may bitch and moan about metaphors and such, but by and large the truth always surfaces in the end. Politics 101- Obama has fallen into an amateurish trap, the politics of personal destruction. The fact of the matter is Obama is no match for Hillary, he thought he was, everyone told him he could beat Hillary. Unless some miracle turns things around for him, I think he's finished. but that is just mpo...

85. About Hilaryis44.org in their own words:
Edited on Thu Jun-28-07 12:11 AM by Moochy
ON EDIT: bold emphasis added below by me.

About from http://www.hillaryis44.org/?page_id=2
We started this website because we believe Senator Hillary Clinton will be an excellent 44th President of the United States. Senator Hillary Clinton will be the Democratic Party’s nominee for President because she is not only the best candidate running, but she is also the one candidate that will without doubt beat the Republicans and restore sanity to the White House.

For the next year, we will bring you news and commentary of the 2008 race for president. Our focus will be on Senator Clinton and the Democrats. Once Senator Clinton wins the nomination we will turn our focus to the Republican nominee.

Although we feel that Senator Clinton will be the nominee (we thought that way back in March 2006) the race, as always in a democracy, will be an exciting one. We will have lots to say especially with regards to the media and blog coverage of the campaign. We will keep an especially sharp eye on “progressives” or Democrats who repeat Republican talking points to undermine Hillary or any of our candidates.

At the left hand side of our website we have posted permanent commentary pages on certain issues such as Iraq which we will continue to update.

Feel free to comment on our posts and to send us any tips, which we will keep confidential.

96. More on the cesspool of a site that the OP is keen on - -
From http://www.professorbainbridge.com/2007/06/whois-hillaryis.html --

If you run a Whois search on Hillaryis44.com, you discover that the site was registered by DomainsByProxy.com, which proudly boasts that:

We protect your identity and only reveal it in special situations.

So whoever is running the site apparently doesn't want their identity known. Why?

Interestingly, one of the "special situations" in which DomainsByProxy.com will reveal the true site owner's identity is where the owner uses the site to "defame, embarrass, harm, abuse, threaten, or harass third parties." Scanning HillaryIS44.com, I'd say Noonan is right that the blogger is obsessed Obama. Indeed, the very purpose of the site would seem to be to "abuse" Obama, "embarrass" Obama, and "harm" Obama's presidential chances.

Louis Brandeis famously observed that sunlight is the best disinfectant and electric light the best policeman. Disclosure and transparency ought to be the rule in politics. If Hillary's campaign is behind this website, they shouldn't be able to hide behind a proxy registrant.

Update: To be sure, the website states: "We are not affiliated with the Hillary For President Exploratory Committee, or any official Hillary Clinton organization in any way." Maybe so. Maybe not. Unless there is disclosure, however, we can't know. The anonymity of the site raises a legitimate inference that there is some connection to the campaign.

103. Hillary is no rookie, unlike Obama. Hillary knew full well Bush was lying about WMD
yet she voted for war because it was the "safe" vote. To this day, Hillary has yet to admit that the war in Iraq was a war of aggression, a criminal war, a violation of international law. Instead, Hillary has only spoken of how Bush has "mismanaged" the war.

All Hillary has to offer is that she will be a more efficient mass murderer and human rights abuser than Bush.

God help us from such "experience."

112. Hillary and Bill had to know Iraq was no threat.
They were in a unique position to know. I hold them more responsible than the others, because the others were influenced by them. Apart from a few like Bob Graham.

101. More crap from Carville's Hillaryis44 smear website
and another reminder of why the Clintons should not be returned to the White House.

120. Who bankrolls "Hillaryis44"?
Anyone? Anyone? Buehler?

This site is a sleazy festival of character assasination. The owners need to come clean about who they are and who is bankrolling their efforts. If they don't, the FEC needs to step up and investigate.

She used to have the icon of the "hillary is 44.com" but now its conveniently gone after I called her out about it.

125. Are you sure he wasn't including himself among the not-ready?
Perhaps he just meant that no one who hasn't been President before can be absolutely prepared on day one for the job -- that there's a learning curve for everyone -- and there'd be one for him too, even if he didn't explicitly point that out. (Bush's learning curve sloped steeply downward from his day one, and never had any upswing. He's been doing great on learning to be an incompetent emperor, however.)

I haven't really settled on any of the current Democratic candidates yet -- I'm still hoping against hope Gore will jump in. It's enough for me at the moment that I'd happily have any of our Dems for President over any of the Republicans. I'll worry more about getting behind a specific candidate closer to the primaries.

At any rate, that's my long way of saying that without any particular bias towards one candidate or another, this remark of Obama's hardly seems like "going down in flames" material. It's a little less than 100% perfect campaign rhetoric, and could certainly have been a little more thoughtful, but I hardly see cause for fussing much about it.

129. It's amazing that you got such a title from the Sun Times article
The part on the HillShill site about Obama being a basketball player is sure interesting as an example of perhaps stereotypical bullshit about blacks being "good at sports" or what the hell ever.

Did he mutter "I's gwonna git dat honky bitch, mang..." as he entered the room.

All I have to do is mention things that Senator Clinton actually said to make her look ridiculous...you have to pull shit out of your ass to make Obama look "bad".

130. AN OBVIOUS PRO HILLARY POST LINKED TO A PRO HILLARY WEB SITE
I am getting sicker and sicker with this $hit... Very little substance only attacks on both sides... It seems that professional posters are out to just sling mud. My 2 cents I'm not reading any more from known frequent posters of this type of crap...

As far as who I support.... So far Edwards has the best Health Care plan and a good environmental plan.... and for me the top tier all play to much to the "faith" based voter.

Obama comes in a close second.....

I don't think it makes Hillary look very good although, I'm sure she has nothing to do with it....but the Hill supporter who posted this, ain't doing her any favors.

For several reasons at this point. Senator Clinton has nothing to do with that.

What Obama said was correct as you point out, except for saying she was president...which, ironically is what her supporters want people to believe. They would like you to think it was a co-presidency. No way!
