Please allow an old coot to change his mind...
Edited on Thu Jun-28-07 10:20 PM by WCGreen
And admit he was wrong ...

It's time to impeach...

It will not distract the publics attention from the democrats running for president, as Mr. Edwards, Ms. Clinton and Mr. Obama seem to imply when asked about Impeachment ...

And if it does, isn't the future of this country more important than partisan politics, no let me say it for what it is, personal political agendas ...

I think it is...

And BTW, what agenda will be sacrificed...

The GOP has continually thwarted any major move the Democrats in congress try to push through...

And won't the president exercise his veto...

The GOP is still in control of the debate no matter how much we believe the Dem's are in the majority...

If we had Veto proof margins in Congress, then we could lead legislatively...

But we don't so we can't...

End of that discussion...

And since the current occupant of the White House strongly believes that he will be vindicated by history, there is no political pressure that can be brought down on someone like that...

The megalomania of Bush makes him feel as if he immune to politics...

He has visions, messianic visions that are denied by the Constitution and validated by presidents from Washington to Clinton...

He must be removed from office for he can not be marginalized...

That leaves only one weapon in the Democrats arsenal...

Impeachment...

At first I too thought that it would distract from the democrats in Congress or ruin our chances in 2008...

I no longer believe this is true...

We must remove this man from office...

We must restore dignity to America...

It's time for the Democrats to throw their pollsters and advisers to the wind and do what is right for the country...

Impeachment...

And if it does distract from the presidential candidates, I ask you what does it matter if you look the other way and so refuse to deal with perhaps the strongest threat to our democracy...

It conveys weakness, pettiness and frankly, not the kind of traits I look for in a Leader...

Impeachment....

If you, as a candidate for president, are afraid to confront, for example, Talk Radio, why should we believe you would confront any other strong threat...

Impeachment....

It's time for the Democrats in power to look to what is right and what is wrong...

It's time for the Democrats in Washington to do the right thing...

Impeachment....

And while we are at it...

Take out the Vice President as well....

16. Absolutely: Cheney first
He's the low-hanging fruit who has the support of about 9% of the American people. You would also change the course of the war at the same time. It's all good.

Actually that will get the job done.

3. Good. The only thing that will save this nation now is Truth. Truth Matters.
And we shouldn't have to TELL Democrats that after the last 7 years of seeing what happened when you let BushInc off the hook - especially when they were cornered.

5. Totally agree.
I`d like to see our dems do an impeachment two-fer, otherwise they must take out darth first. then on to the rhinestone cowboy. We couldn`t survive for a minute with darth as pres even for one minute.

17. Yes, indeed. Welcome into the Light, WCGreen!
VERY glad to have you among us.

We HAVE TO IMPEACH. We just simply have NO choice anymore. There are no options left. These assholes will thumb their noses at the Constitution, Congress, AND, ACCORDINGLY, AT US. And that just cannot be.

And figure it this way:

How many of our reps are now saying they made a mistake, they shouldn't have voted for the war, they shouldn't have voted for the Patriot Act, they shouldn't have done this, they shouldn't have done that. Now some of them are probably wishing they'd listened when we BEGGED them not to approve alito. I GUARANTEE YOU, there WILL come another bush. Give it maybe 10, 15, or 20 years. Just as we thought nixon was the worst ever, NOW we have bush. And there WILL be some schmuck coming after him - maybe even someone in bush's administration NOW, or someone in the so-called "College republi-CONS" or some other farm team - who has a hard-on for power and now knows exactly how to get it and keep it. He (or she) WILL point to this era and say - "PRECEDENT!!!" He or she will point to this horrible, horrible, completely fucked, nightmare era and say "WELL??? Whaddya talking about, illegal, unconstitutional? That guy bush, and his pal cheney, they BOTH did this and you didn't say a word. MUST NOT'VE BEEN SO ILLEGAL THEN, 'EH?????????" And our people won't have a leg to stand on.

Mark my words. If this is NOT stopped, and bush and cheney are NOT stopped, and there is no unavoidable lesson sent to future generations that THIS SHIT IS ILLEGAL, UNETHICAL, UNCONSTITUTIONAL, CRIMINAL, AND ABSOLUTELY UNACCEPTABLE, we will be forced to suffer through this again. Or our kids will. There will be young power-mongers all over the political landscape studying this time and learning from it and using it as a blueprint for their own future quests for dictatorship. They will seize on this and build upon it. And, especially if they're radical GOP, they'll probably succeed even more stunningly than these assholes have. Unfortunately, the ONE thing that republi-CONS do well is learn from past mistakes. Any wonder why they fight like tigers to avoid testifying UNDER OATH? 'Cause that's how Clinton fell into the impeachment trap. Any wonder why they've got Fred Fielding from the Watergate era giving them professional advice now? 'Cause he went through it before when it got as bad as it did, and he knows stuff - especially what to avoid that got mishandled back when nixon was up to no good.

This bullshit about how they don't want to bother because it'd be divisive to the country (DIVISIVE???? LIKE WE'RE NOT THERE ALREADY???? LIKE WE HAVEN'T BEEN THERE FOR YEARS NOW?????), or that we have other agenda items far more pressing that need our attention (I BEG YOUR PARDON???? OTHER ITEMS MORE PRESSING THAN THIS?????? THERE *IS* NO OTHER ITEM MORE PRESSING THAN THIS!!!!!), or any other such CRAP - is just that. CRAP.

There is NO other way. We HAVE TO IMPEACH. If we love our country, our Constitution, the rule of law, and our future - not to mention our self-respect, we have NO other choice.

7. you are perfectly entitled to change your mind
Gawd, I prefer that a thousand times over the bellicosity echoing here at DU. It means you are open to new information. Well done.

I agree about impeachment, but I didn't start there either. The truth is as the magnitude of this administrations' crimes unfolds thanks to the work of those in Congress who deserve encouragement and support as much as they do pointed prodding from time to time, but I digress ... there is no other reasonable path.

As investigations unfold, the path is clear. Impeachment is a circuitous process, but there is nothing more important than going about the arduous task of setting things right. I hope Al Gore jumps in and takes up his fiery speeches condemning this administration. It would be a beautiful segue into a run for the White House.

9. Welcome to the light
The argument that there are things to do from the dems are mute and they say so much themselves every time they say that they can't bring the troops home or whatever it is that they can't do at the moment. Since they don't have that super majority they should start impeachment proceedings. Sure they don't have the votes there either but at least the country will get to see the truth that has been hidden from them for the past seven years and they might actually demand it of their congressional representatives. What do they have to lose but campaigning/fundraising time for the candidates.

Agree w/these others, Dickiepoo first, then Shrubadumb. If we ever needed to make history in politics...now is the time, a two-fer is what we need!

I have no idea how this would be done(both), but the nation CANNOT WAIT MUCH LONGER!
Any constitutional/legal types out there who might enlighten me on this?

I too have previously been on the fence regarding impeachment, knowing that to just simply preserve the integrity of the Constitution it is the right thing to do, period, but at the same time thinking it might be more politically astute to let the chimp drag his party into oblivion on his own rather than taking the risk of making the Dems look like they are partaking in a witch-hunt.

But this criminal enterprise occupying the WH has just gone too far.

I say impeach the veep first -- the Dems have a perfect excuse with the latest revelations of crashcart's power grabs and ignoring of subpoenas. Through the impeachment hearings and discovery alone, the truth will be exposed for all to see and the people will be demanding the ouster of the chimp as well as the blood sucking war-profiteer.

You've hit the nail on the head.

History will judge the bush era not by the lawlessness of the administration but by the weakness and timidity of democrats who stood by and blustered while the nation was trashed.
