Giuliani, Rodham Clinton Tied in Ohio

(Angus Reid Global Monitor) - Two prospective United States presidential candidates are tied in the Buckeye State, according to a poll by the Quinnipiac University Polling Institute. 43 per cent of respondents in Ohio would support former New York City mayor Rudy Giuliani in 2008, while 43 per cent would vote for Democratic New York senator Hillary Rodham Clinton.

Giuliani holds a two-point lead over Illinois senator Barack Obama, and trails former U.S. vice-president Al Gore by one point. In other match-ups, Arizona senator John McCain trails Rodham Clinton by two points and Illinois senator Barack Obama by five points, but leads Gore by two points. The three Democrats are ahead of actor and former Tennessee senator Fred Thompson.

In 2004, Republican George W. Bush carried Ohio’s 20 electoral votes, with 51 per cent of the vote. The Buckeye State has supported the eventual president in every U.S. election since 1964.

Bush is ineligible for a third term in office. The next United States presidential election is scheduled for November 2008.

If they do, these numbers will go down.
