One thing Democrats and most Republicans agree upon...

Our economic dependence on foreign oil is a bad thing for America.

It seems obvious that if we could provide our own energy needs without relying on countries in the middle east, we would be much better off ...
...except for Bush, Cheney and their ilk.

Their wealth is *based* on middle eastern oil so they encourage political connections with Muslim countries, thereby giving a reason for terrorists to target us while discouraging efforts to wean ourselves away from them.

Of course the Iraq war is all about gaining control of Iraqi middle eastern oil reserves so they can keep the dollars rolling in.

They don't care what's good for the country, only what's good for themselves, the oil barons.

Why don't the Republicans see this? Most of them hate us being reliant on foreign oil. They should be pushing as much as the rest of us for energy self reliance.

Because of Reagan/bush's Faustian deal with the oil barrons, we are re-living the 70s. The exact same ideas of alternative fuels, better gas mileage and how bad the screwed-up the Mid East is were said verbatim 30 years ago! Then, as now, we knew that we could do better. Unfortunately, unlike then, the Democrats are too weak to fix this mess and greedy corporations have no desire to change.
