(Al) Franken leads incumbent in fundraising
Source: AP

WASHINGTON - Democratic Senate candidate Al Franken raised nearly $2 million in the latest reporting period, pulling in more money than both his Democratic rival and the Republican incumbent, Sen. Norm Coleman.

Franken, a comedian-turned-candidate, announced Monday he had pulled in $1.9 million in the second quarter of the year, covering April through June. Last week, Coleman, R-Minn., said he had raised about $1.6 million in the period, and Democrat Mike Ciresi said he had raised $750,000.

Ciresi, a wealthy lawyer, didn't begin raising money until May.

"It's unusual for a challenger to have this kind of quarter," said Steven S. Smith, a political science professor at Washington University in St. Louis. "It is a very impressive showing."

1. Norm Coleman,
You are dead meat.

I can't believe my good friends across the river actually elected that guy to anything.

7. He came in as a DEM and we ARE talking St Paul, NOT Minneapolis.
St Paul is ok, it's just they've learned to walk that crazy wagon wheel path and get turned around once in awhile.

Norm is a skillful manipulator, but he's awful nice about it. Makes me sick but when he actually turned coat and went rethug at least it was a more honest move. He couldn't have been clearer if he'd hung a sign around his neck and said, "SOLD to the HIGHEST BIDDER".

2. Start the countdown clock for Norm to come out against the war.

Senator Franken .... think of all of the heart attacks by Rush, Bill O,
and all the others.

A liberal Jew w/ a Hollywood background .... Go get 'em Al.

3. Al Called me personally after I contributed, both to thank me and invite me to meet him
in person at a gathering (fundraiser).

When he first called one of my employees answered the phone, and rather than just leave a detailed message for me, which he did, he also left a callback number so I could speak to him personally! He's a hoot... talked to me for at least 10 minutes, asked me about my business, told me he grew up on the same street where I live now in St. Louis Park... an altogether memorable experience.

He's going to get a lot of votes. He's working this very personal angle extremely well.

5. John Kerry called me once...
Well, his robot calling machine did.

"Hi, This is Senator John Kerry..."

I was so excited!

For a moment.

I thought he was going to say something like, "I'm going to be campaigning in your area, and I was wondering if I might crash on your couch for a night or two..."

But NooOOooo....

It wasn't the REAL John Kerry.

It was his robot doppleganger.... calling to ask for money.

Please tell Al Franken that I will donate to his campaign again if he calls me personally, and also calls my father personally.

Dad said he voted for Bush, but that he's sorry now.

I don't have the strength to ask my dad, "Please tell me you didn't vote for Bush TWICE."

Maybe Al can ask him for me.

4. I donated within an hour of his announcement!
I bet that the dumpster-diving son of a parking-lot fornicator Norm Coleman has smoked more pot than Al Franken has.

6. I can't wait to see Al in the Senate. He will be great.
I can already see him crying when he wins - taking back Paul Wellstone's seat. He gets so emotional. I love Al :)

However, I did get Mike Cirisi's flyer and I wonder if Al will commit to doing everything Mike has listed. It's a good plan. Don't know Cirisi from a fly on the wall, but he's good on paper.

9. Seeing Al oust Coleman would make me almost as happy as a President Gore.
Go AL!!!

And get this! "According to Franken's campaign, more than 95 percent of his contributions in the last reporting period were $100 or less."

Al, you're good enough, you're smart enough, and gosh darn it -- people like you!
