Bush: "everybody wants to be loved...decisions...and the consequences don't enable you to be loved"

ANALYSIS
Bush still holds best hand in strategy battle
Until Congress can break his veto, he can run the war as he sees fit

By PETER BAKER
Washington Post

WASHINGTON — He lamented that he is unloved these days and reflected on the "war fatigue" that has gripped his country. He looked forward to the day, not so long from now, when he will retire to his Crawford ranch and tell himself that he did the right thing.

<<snip>>

At another point, he stopped to answer a shouted question after starting to leave the room, something he rarely does. "This is amazing," he declared. "The new me!"

<<snip>>

Yet there were moments of reflection for a typically unreflective president. It was hard not to wonder whether he was talking about himself as he mused about the "ugly war" and how the American people have wearied of it. "You know, they're tired of the war," he said. "There is a war fatigue in America. It's affecting our psychology."

And then there was the concession that while he still commands policy, he no longer commands the affection of his nation. "I guess I'm like any other political figure — everybody wants to be loved," he said. "Just sometimes the decisions you make and the consequences don't enable you to be loved."

Leaning on the podium, Bush anticipated the day when the responsibility would no longer be his and harbored hope for vindication. "When it's all said and done ... if you ever come down and visit the old, tired me down there in Crawford, I will be able to say I looked in the mirror and made decisions based upon principle, not based upon politics," he said. "And that's important to me."

2. Bush never had my affection or support.
Nor that of a lot of people I know.

Bush is a crazed delusion egophrenic who believes
the propaganda.

3. What f*cking consequences?
What a little two-bit phony. Dollars to donuts he doesn't spend more than a few months in Craawford when this is all over. "Based on principle"...that's laughable.

10. I didn't know lust for money and power were principles!
He's done the right thing for his greedy theiving friends. And people who feel that they're fated to be unloved are the MOST dangerous because they don't feel obligated to--well, feel.
