As THE non-candidate, Wes Clark has freedom of speech, and uses it:
From the transcript of his participation in C.A.P. -- America in the World Conference http://securingamerica.com/ccn/node/12631

And I just want to underscore what Brzezinski said, and I want to take one step
further. We’re not going to regain our moral authority until we actually look at the past.
This is very hard for people to say, especially in an election year, because everyone likes
to say let’s just focus on the future, but the truth is that some monumental mistakes were
made and I believe – I come from an institution, I grew up being taught that
accountability for mistakes was an essential part of leadership. There needs to be some
accountability for the mistakes that are present at Guantanamo and Abu Ghraib, and I’m
not talking about a couple of soldiers being court-martialed for improper behavior. This
goes to the very top of organizations in the executive branch, and you know precisely
which organizations I’m talking about, and you know precisely who and whose memos
should be examined. And I believe that we’re not going to clear the books and really
regain our authority until we’ve opened the books and looked at them.
(Applause.)

4. He is SO right!
I'm so glad he's out there speaking up for what's right. He has the cred too.
He's like Al Gore on global warming, he KNOWS about international affairs and the military.

7. You've got it reversed at the very least.

Clark has decades more experience than Obama, especially and obviously when it comes to foreign policy and dealing with the military.

9. True, but Obama is a better politician to get the nomination and win.
And plus, there is more than just foreign policy/military experience. But I do adore the man. He is brilliant.

10. Not in a General Election he isn't.
Clark is the type of straight talking patriotic higly experienced leader that Americans of almost all political stripes can and do respect. If we want to win, and win big in Novmember 2008, we couldn't do better than to have Wes Clark at the head of our ticket.

And I think a lot of people will be surprised with how effective a politician and campaigner Wes Clark has become in the last four years, if he does decide to run.

14. In the general election, Clark would be unbeatable
WHereas Obama proably would win, and Hillary might win.

Big difference....

16. Clark got lots of attention during the primaries and won Okla.!?
That should tell people that Clark is universal, well liked by people in red States. Besides, he is very smart and has learned the ropes in the last 4 years. But, he is running out of time.

15. Obama and the General
First, I like Obama very much, and since he was correct about the war, I'm comfortable with his ability to stand up against republican positions without having to hedge. Nevertheless there are a few things to consider:

• The presidency, as recent events prove, has far more influence on foreign policy/military than the legislative branch. Domestic policy is shared, or leans toward the control of the legislature. At our current junction, foreign policy is now domestic policy because of the global reach of economics, and the matter of money.

• Obama would actually benefit from serving as the vice president and develop leadership skills. Wes Clark could do the job well; however, his leadership skills have already been demonstrated.

• One of the growing problems we problems we face is a challenge to our economy. Clark, in addition to having earned the respect of other world leaders, holds a degree in economics from Oxford, and spent his time as a WHouse scholar, not in the Pentagon, but at OMB. I would suggest that we could use an economist in Washington today.

While we have no indication that Clark will make a run, if I had to choose between Obama/Clark, or Clark/Obama, I would choose Clark/Obama every time.

20. No indication that Clark will make a run?
Wes told the New York Times that he thinks about it every day (NYT magazine, July 1st)

Plus we know he will be bringing out his new book on September 4th:

How much indication do you need, exactly? :eyes:

12. I like Obama too
...way more than I like his current competition.

But I'd really like to see Clark working on America's (and the world's) problems with all the power that comes with POTUS right now. In some ways, this election is even more critical than the last one, imo.

18. Clark should run
He's the man with the plan. He knows exactly what needs to be done and how to execute it. I remain hopeful that he will run because he's a patriot, he's sickened by what he's seen done to our country, and he knows that he has the knowledge and leadership experience to steer us through this narrow strait. If everyone would take a few minutes to compare what Clark says when he gives a speech, or is part of a panel or forum, with what those currently running are saying on the stump, you'd see there is empty rhetoric coming from the campaign trail. We hear a lot of "I hope", "I want to see...", and "We need a change". Well of course we all hope and we all want to see things changed and fixed. Clark is the only one with specifics and with real ideas.

19. Whenever I read an email from the General's staff or listen to him on TV or see an article,
I have an idea of how my grandparents must have felt when hearing FDR on the radio: he knows exactly how to hit with the hammer those whom he should and to tell us why the hammer must fall and we can feel as if we are swinging with him!
