Democratic presidential candidates address trial lawyers group

Associated Press - July 15, 2007 5:24 PM ET

CHICAGO (AP) - Democrats running for president today used a national meeting of trial lawyers to attack other lawyers. They ridiculed US Attorney General Alberto Gonzales and expressed disdain for recent decisions by the US Supreme Court.

Illinois Senator Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton, John Edwards and Joe Biden each appeared separately during a presidential forum at the annual meeting of the American Association for Justice.

New Mexico governor Bill Richardson was also there. He said that if he was elected, his Justice Department would be free of White House influence when it prosecutes cases.

Edwards -- meanwhile -- was critical of recent decisions by the Supreme Court, which is now led by Bush-appointee John Roberts.

Clinton called President Bush's presidency the "most radical presidency we've ever had in our country's history."
